Check Engine Light

Postby Micro469 » Wed Aug 22, 2007 9:05 pm

My check engine light has been on for a while , so I decided to get it fixed.
It pointed out to an EGR problem so the mechanic checked it out and replaced the sensor. Got the car back and the check engine light came back on. Same code on the machine..... Any body know of anything else that could cause this problem? Something about not enough airflow......

Did you reset you trouble code on the car Remove the battery cables for a short time ( 30 min ) and reconnect. Also some times it may take a few miles of driving to clear the sensors before the check engine light goes out. Just my thought and experiences with a loose gas cap and check engine light on the dash.

Get one of these and do the test yourself, pays for itself the first time you use it  Danny

All I know about the dreaded check engine light is that like 75% of the time, the check engine light is broken and comes on when it's not supposed to.
Here we go again!

When my Nissan did that it was a rubber hose about 3" long with a hole in it. Came out of the back of the injector thingy.

Good luck

Let me guess, you have a Ford product… Check the hose from the EGR valve to the controller. Replace it even if it looks ok, it’s under a dollar. When you are at the parts store pick up a INNOVA 3100 code reader, under $100. Follow the directions on how to clear the code. Dive it a little while and recheck with the reader. That will most likely take care of the problem, if that doesn’t take care of it them do another post.

The INNOVA 3100 is a newer version of what Danny posted.

One time my company vehical's check engine light came on and the company mechanic asked me if I had any black electrical tape. I said yes then he said sick it over light and cover it up.......But he did say bring it in when you get a chance!

seriously you can go by Auto Zone and they will test it with their analizer for free, and the sell you the part.

It could be that the sensor isn't bad but the valve is....

Yep, mine's been on for months now -- on both vehicles. I'm worried sick over it.

I do plan to pick up a code reader -- some day -- maybe soon.
Only problem, my Nissans a '95. Seems they changed something about the computers in '96. So one for the Nissan and one for the Hyundai.

I'm with Leon, usually it's the carbon that builds up in the EGR it self also what can cause it, dirty throttle body the butterfly gets dirty just like a carburetor. That butterfly should be cleaned on the back side. I have a Snap On scanner and it it takes alot of probing and visual inspections to find the right problem. Also check or replace your fuel cap.

Mine came on 3 years ago last september. I just use it for a night light. It still runs fine. I heard they are tripped by the odometer to get folks back into the dealerships. Who knows ??

Same here my wifes 2004 Nissan Titan has a tire presure light come on the dash after you hit a dip or bump and stays on until you shut off the truck and turn it back on. I don't have that problem on my 1972 ford F-100 or my 1939 Chevy coupe.

Yep..check for a vacuum leak, and most check engine lites are associated with the emissions control system.
so all you check engine lite guys are responsible for global warming and were all gonna die because you didn't change an O2 sensor...
