Hey Sam!

Great job. And I love the color!

Can you even believe it actually looks like something now? That's the best feeling ever...besides camping in it that is! :R

Mandy-The blanket chest (good term by the way, I wasn't sure what to call it) came out kind of by accident. I didn't want to mess around with edging a plywood lid and I had some 1x8s laying around in the garage. I ripped one to about a 2 inch width to give me a base, which I screwed on; then I hinged 2 more onto it. The front one flips up for partial access. If I want to completely open it, the front piece folds back onto the second, which folds up against the wall. I took these photos at the wrong angle, but maybe you can make out what I'm trying to say:

Great minds, eh Shelley? I forgot you have the kind of hatch I'm working on. Haven't noticed them in many places. How did you do the inside part of it? I'm (tentatively) planning on running a strip of plywood around the inside edge of the wall to slightly overlap the outside edge of the hatch, and somehow sealing the holy *#!%! out of it. Sound logical?

Hinge

Postby CAJUN LADY » Thu Aug 23, 2007 8:49 am

Shelly:

What kind of hinge did you use on your galley lid? The guy who built mine used the wrong kind and when it rains, it goes right through the hinge. I was told to get a "hurricane hinge" but I saw one online that I think will work great. Just have to make sure my galley will allow it to open at full height.

Rebecca, Can you get us some pictures of the existing hinge? That will help us help you.

I used the Plastic hinge or living hinge on my TD. It is a woody so it worked out good for me.

MK:

I will take a photo when I get home this afternoon and post it on my album.
I am still "photo post literate" on this forum. Thanks for helping me with this.

If you want it to show in your text try pasting the URL like you did, but then highlight it and hit the Img button instead of the URL button.

Ok... Cajun lady :)

If you want to post a picture so it shows on the post. Then while making your post and putting the URL as above shows = http://tnttt.com/album_ ... c_id=24064 Use the Img tag up at the top of the posting box.

That is highlight the link above and click the Img tag Image = [img]yur%20picture%20location[/img]

So the end result will be the picture showing.

Rebecca - I got my hurricane hinge from Grant Whipp (Lil' Bear Tears) and it's awesome. No leaks! I would recommend it.

Sam - What plans are you using? I used Steve Frederick's and in it is the construction of the hatch. I'm not sure what you are referring to about the "inside edge of the wall to overlap the outside edge of the hatch." I'll look for some of the pictures of my build and post them, or send me a PM with more clarification and I'll try to help. The hatch went together pretty easily, but I do have some pointers to help it stay square. Mine is a little tweaked, but not so much that it matters now.

My hatch works awesome - no leaks at all with the way it seals on the edges! I love it!
