DO demo day and time?

Postby Esteban » Tue Aug 28, 2007 2:11 am

Maybe we can help Matt and Joanne by suggesting when to do the DO demonstration. Most people will arrive and set up Thursday...that seems too soon. We have no activities "scheduled" Friday...just lots of visiting. Saturday morning starts with the Waffle Off and later Sat. afternoon/evening we'll have the pot luck.

BTW what is a good time for the Sat. evening pot luck to begin?

Please tell me your real name for the SLO Gathering

Postby Esteban » Wed Aug 29, 2007 4:59 pm

I have an important request. If you signed up to come to the SLO Gathering with only your T&TTT screen name, and not your real name (first and last) too, would you please post both or PM me, Esteban, with your name together with your screen name. I left a printed copy of the page 1 RSVP list for Lana, the camp host, at MdeO yesterday. Lana called me today to request our (real first and last) names to help her with camp site registration. Lana is the heroine of our gathering with her gracious behind the scenes help so we can have the SLO Gathering at MdeO.

If you don't want to post your name here to protect your privacy please PM me and I'll only give your name to Lana on an updated list with your T&TTT screen name. I'll send you back a PM to confirm your message was received...sometimes a pop up window appears saying there's a new PM and there's not one when I look...darn Gremlins. Check the page 1 RSVP list..if your first and last name is on it there's no need to send me a PM with it.

Thanks in advance, Steve

Thanks Bill and George. Welcome Sam. :)

Completely off topic there's lightening flashing outside. Now I hear thunder. Crossing my fingers, the hills are dry around here.

Wes and Betty, I sent you a PM. All the "on hold" spots are spoken for. If you're OK sharing a campsite we may be able to "squeeze" you in. Stay tuned.

Just a thought.....

I think it's a good bet that someone without a reservation could get one of the (12?) unreserved spots if they were to arrive early. I mean, the school year has begun by then and camping season has slowed a bit. Perhaps a Thursday, or even Wednesday arrival would be appropriate. Just be sure the campground host is very aware that you are non-reserved.

I'm sure there are going to be plenty of people willing to share a space, Steve mentioned to me that the sites are pretty large, I know that some of the No. Cal group are going to double up, freeing some spaces for others. Doug

Running out of wiggle room

Postby Esteban » Sun Sep 02, 2007 2:04 am

We're essentially full with very little room for more people to camp at the SLO Gathering. The gathering is much more popular than we initially expected. Montana de Oro is a small campground. We probably won't be able to accommodate everyone who'd like to come.

We have RSVPs for all the 35 "on hold" spaces. 2-4 campsites were closed off or lost because of erosion. There are about 10 spaces in the park for anyone from the public, on a first come first served basis, to use. They can't be counted on to be available. I don't want anyone to take their time to drive here only to be turned away because the park is full...with no room at the Inn.

I'm trying to find places where there's wiggle room for a few people who want to come. It's increasingly tricky and uncertain. A shortage of parking space limits how many people can come, even by "doubling up." You can't leave extra cars or trucks at night in the day use parking area, outside the campground, of Montana de Oro because the rangers ticket and may tow away vehicles parked overnight.

For more people to come some things may happen. Maybe some people on the RSVP list will cancel. If you're on the RSVP list now and you're doubling up please release campsite "holds" you don't need. If you'd be OK doubling up, or have space for an extra vehicle to park with you (park rules limit parking to 3 vehicles per campsite, trailers included, if they all can fit inside a typical 24'x24' paved parking area), let me know. It would open things up for a few more people to come.

Another camping option is to stay at Morro Bay State Park about 9 miles away.

Asking for help

Postby Esteban » Sun Sep 02, 2007 12:46 pm

 If someone coming with a RSVP has an extra parking space (you're bringing no more than 2 vehicles including your trailer) for a 6x8 utility trailer I have someone else, behind the scenes, willing to share a campsite with Wes and Betty. The people who are willing to share their campsite are the ones who'd need room for their utility trailer. :) :)

Hey,
S.L.O. is over 100 degrees today  . Us locals are not use to this kind of weather. We are use to fog and over cast.

This will be my first gathering and I'm really looking forward to it, but I'm a little apprehensive about the potluck on Sat. It seems like many in this group are gourmet chefs - am I gonna be able to sneak by with a pot of Buckaroo Beans or a salad or something simple like that?
