So, do you pay for service, AND have to suffer through advertising on TV?

Here, a lot of programing is paid for by advertisers, and to be honest, I'd pay $200 bucks a year to be rid of the ads. Advertising takes up 10 minutes of every 30 minutes of airtime on most stations.

Most of the programming here is lame, too. I watch mostly the cable/satellite channels, like Discovery, Travel Channel and FoodTV.

And don't get me started on commercial radio here. :x

CD

Believe it or not we still have to put up with advertsing.. however its not very long. And remember the tv is still on even though just watching videos it can still be picked up by the "Peili" which the inspectors use..
Peili is the word for "Mirror" . Its just an electronic device that picks up the signals off the tv or the heat from it.. Im not quite sure of how it works but it works very well.. And if after several tries and letters in the mail ..they,ll come over with the local police to talk to you..
  I know it sounds humerous in a way but its very true.

Now what I dont know is if the Computer will work on the device..

PS Ohh like it was mentioned - A compulsory donation to watch Tv.

So it was invented buy the Brits huh? Andrew was that of your designing?

Ohh and Commercial Radio ... :shhh: How about Radio Yle brought to you by Nokia..

Also there is no way of getting out if it either or saying you dont watch Tv or you dont have one or... excuses .

Yep, same here! Can't get out of it, even if you don't watch TV. If you have a TV in your house, you have to have a license. And cannot buy a TV if you don't show the license first!

Here its not so that we have to show the license first.. no problem there but the invoice or receipt data is automatically sent to the tele communications office so that way its not much different ..

Man, your amateur bureaucrats need to take some lessons from our finely-tuned guys - having a TV is now so universal here that they assume you have a TV and send you licence demands even if you haven't got one.

Of course if you don't have a TV, you don't need a licence, but they'll still send the demands each year and you can be sure they'll send the TV-detector van round your house some time to see if you're telling the truth.

As much as we are subjected to commercials (I think it is close to 50% now.) and had to pay a fee too, there would be another Boston T-----V party. But then again I would not put it past the government to do another money grab like that if they thought they could get away with it.

wondered if anyone else was thinking about him...

this really gives me the creeps.

of course, we do get to vote here..... if most people form their own vote by listening to very subjective opinions of broadcast "journalists" then i cannot believe there would not be a mega-revolt over this type of blood-sucking.

but bend over, they'll get it somewhere!
