Durabak update. Not a good one. Updated 9/12

My TD doesn't live at the house here full-time and a buddy of mine wanted to use it last weekend....he is a real good friend.....so I let him. Well last night it came back and this is what was going on.



It was cracked really bad at the curves and galley hatch and even in various spots on the flat surfaces.

Roof is shot and needs something...any ideas short of ripping her apart and selling the parts off? It is garbage day...maybe just roll her to the curb!

Dude, I am sorry to see you having all these problems. Don't give up and haul it to the curb!!! I have done that too many times and it's very painful. Just hang in there and wait until some of the Teardrop Gurus here have spoken. There has to be a fix for your dilemma. Lord knows I have been through this same situation with my build. I started over 4 times and it's sure does set you back in the confidence department when you haul you're dreams to the curb.

You have a nice looking teardrop to just junk it. Hang in there, bro!

i did my pick up bed in heruliner and had the same problem. they say it is a uv issue. what i did to it was overcoat it with Duponts version which has the UV inhibitors in it and have had no issues with it. I know your tear is gray but it might be a solution. the dupont stuff is carried by Walmart .

The duplicolor stuff is very UV unstable too. After I spray that stuff on I go over it with Acrylic Enamel Automotive paint it creates a textured finish, and it's way more UV friendly. My offroad trailer was done that way in 2000 and it's still taking a beating and looking nice.

The bad thing is the wood is kind of screwed up and I really don't know where to start...do I dry it out good and go over the top with something? Do I try and rip off the wood? With all the Gorilla Glue I don't think it would come off that easy. Go over the top with aluminum??

I am leaning toward parting out and torching it!

I haven't been this discouraged in a long time...the wood is pretty screwed up.

I called into Durabak and waiting for someone to call me back. I know it is already screwed up, but I had to voice my frustrations to them.

Elmo can you sand that semi smooth? I think I would sand it really good. Put some paint remover on it and start over with some epoxy then paint.

That or join the vinyl roof gang. You guys check out Paul C's fiberglass thing. He puts it all over his.

I am going to go out and sand a section in a little while to see what happens...at least the inside is dry....for now! If it wasn't the textured stuff this would be easier. I know I should of painted!
