I know aluminum is probally going to be the answer..... but it was done! I just wanted to camp!

Well shoot... Sand the bad spots, and patch it with some more of that stuff... and go camp!
Fix the booger on teardrop time... like when it's too dang cold to camp. :)

The stuff is a $100 a gallon...I would probally just use paint for now! By the way it is never too cold to camp. :)

Elmo sorry to here about your tear!!! Man does that Suck!!! :x my tear is also covered with Durabak!!!!! I have not had a problem with mine yet! :worship: ....... Just curious? I don't want the same thing to happen to mine! Did you put some thing on the wood before you applied the Durabak?... I have glass and epoxy on all my seams and edges and was worried about the Durabak sticking. I called the company and they told me to sand it real good and then wipe it all down with xylene before I applied it and I would be OK.

I followed the directions exactly...I used wood filler and bondo...sanded it all down....wiped it off with xylene ....not even 6 months later.... :x

The seams are all doing alright, but it will have issues right in the middle. I put 4 coats on the roof. The galley hatch has hair-line cracks all the way down.

I hope you don't have problems! The one guy said they might of had a bad batch and give me a name and # to call...I called about the same time I started this thread and was told that guy I asked for was on the phone and he would call me right back....how long is "right back"?

My galley paint (black smooth) never set up either and the sent me a new gallon....not very impressed with this product!

Is yours the smooth or textured??? Hopefully the smooth would be a better choice.

Elmo

That is bad news and heartbraking after all the work to it... So sorry to hear..

Can you get that stuff off with sanding? Do you happen to have 2 or 3 mm Finnish or Baltic Ply anywhere in the stores? Sand it down and glue a thin sheet on top and epoxy as normal ??? Just my idea.. and Im willing to bet you wouldnt know the difference anymore. ;)

Paul from DownUnder and I are the fiberglass installers or whatever the real name is..On mine I really didnt have a choice but now seeing mine almost done with just a few feet of moulding left to install Im glad that is what I used anyway..

Maintance free basically as Ive been told here. Also that is used on trailers big and small... I guess mine is the small :D

But the next is going to be Woody Woody and Epoxy...No doubt.

Like you I want to go camping... soooooooo bad.. but I guess Ive got all winter ... like 6 months... :o

Hope you get the problem solved ...

Elmo... Mine is textured just like yours but white..... I hope I don't have problems either. Mine is only 2 month's old. I went out and looked at it and I cant find any thing wrong yet..... If they did have a bad batch maybe you can get them to send you 4 new gallons for free. Good luck ! Let us know how you make out with them and what you decide to do with/to your Tear!

By the way it is never too cold to camp.

A guy from Wisconsin would say that... I'm a wimp from Flada, when it gets below freezing I'm done.

Woohoo....good news everyone! :woohoo: My neighbor is coming over to help. She doesn't ever say much and I guess she is good with wood, because she is always carrying her tools around....here is a picture of her I got when she was looking in our window a couple of mornings ago. She must of been looking for her husband....come to think of it I haven't seen him for awhile.

She even volunteered to watch my kids so I could run to the store for supplies. Boy...neighbors are great!

I have been finally been contacted by Durabak...I will say their customer service is top notch. Nothing is resolved yet...sent them some pictures awhile ago.

Threaten to sue them for 10 grand, settle for 5, and build or buy another one.

A BAD BATCH!?

What the hell is THAT supposed to mean!?

We were discussing Durabak here on the forum a couple of years ago, so I looked up my old post on the stuff. Some people have had good results, but no doubt Durabak preforms inconsistantly. I wouldn't recommend anyone use it.

Posted: Fri Jul 22, 2005 8:35 pm Post subject: Durabak experience ------------- quote--------
Used the stuff a few years ago to coat the plywood deck of a sailboat, the company touted its durability and non skid capabilities. Unfortunately the stuff never fully cured and caused irrepairable damage to a classic boat. The company sent more Durabak to replace it and claimed they had some "formulary" problems. But the damage was done, I couldn't afford to go tearing off the new decks and starting over.
