I will try and take a couple of pictures today up close. It is not as pretty a job as a real rv latch attachment would be but it was cheap and easy. Yes, I know Ira would love my towels. I am from deep South Louisiana, as is MadJack and have a deep love of crawfish and any food from LA. I think that's why I love red so much...reminds me of boiled crawfish

Ladies, Ladies, Ladies...you inspire us. Love the shower curtain material. I bid so many times on e-bay trying to purchase barkcloth but have finally given up. People bid so many $'s that I refuse to go there. I would like to know if you go with retro, vintage or new...canisters, food storage, dishpans, etc. I have been looking at graniteware dishpans, metal magnetic spice rack w/4 jars, and metal 5" canisters that are airtight. I have purchased a couple of retro tablecloths and dishtowels. With such limited storage and weight concerns I've been very careful with choices. Can't build but sure have fun decorating. Do you have a tear? If so, post some photos in your album so we can all admire it.
I don't know about the other ladies but my mom makes my table cloths from material I give her or from old sheets. I have a metal roll up octogon shaped table I got from Sam's last year and it is hard to find table cloths in that shape so I use round or let my mom do the hard work of sewing them.
I have some blue and black enamel dishware from WalMart but I decided to use some plastic dishes instead. I noticed the enamel ones chipping so I changed dishware. I've seen someone post a photo of some older cups and dishes they found and it looks like the older tupperware, especially the colors. That will last them a lifetime!

WOW!!! I have been away from the forum for far too long!! This is amazing that this thread is still going strong. It's a testament to all the incredible women on this forum!!

I have been limping along with my build, but last weekend I finally put up the walls!!!! Yes, I'll post pictures soon. This coming weekend I'll be building the wheel wells, bulkheads, and if time permits (fingers crossed) putting the ceiling skin and roof spars on and laying the marmoleum floor!! The good thing is, I already have the spars built and ready, and the roof skin is varnished and ready to be installed. Everything should start coming together at a much faster pace now!

I do have a rather funny story to tell (at least it is funny now, looking back on it). This past weekend I needed to roll the chassis down into my garage (it is a basement level garage, down a narrow driveway). I didn't want to bug my partner for help, and I figured I could manage it myself by using wood blocks to stop the wheels and slowly move it down. Of course it "seemed" like a good idea at the time. So...I was rolling the chassis over to the edge of the driveway, by hand (yes silly me didn't want to take the time to hook it up to my truck and roll it down that way), when all of the sudden it took off and rolled right over my wood blocks, pulling me along with it! Oh, silly silly me, what the heck was I thinking! So, as I am being dragged by the chassis down into the garage, the only thing I could think was that I couldn't let it hit my beautiful wood sides that I have spent sooooo much time building, so I started to steer it the best I could. I am now happy to say that the only thing in my garage that suffered damage, besides my ego, was the front of my jointer. It suffered a small scratch, and the nameplate popped off. Nothing else in my shop, including my teardrop sides, were touched! I didn't even end up with a single scratch on me! Of course I was completely shook up, but once I realized that everything was alright I totally started laughing at myself. It has been so long since I moved the chassis, I completely forgot how heavy it was. I'll be using a vehicle next time.

Oh Amy I am so happy your sides weren't hurt, or you either. I'll laugh in a minute when I get over the concern. Can't wait to see it. I know it will be right up there with the other art pieces.

Denise I'm glad you are joining in the discussion. This thread has become more than I ever expected because of the great ladies here! It's nice having a place we can all chit chat.

Of course I like it when the guys who drop in too, they are an extra treat.

enamelware can definitely chip. but i love it. used to have some long ago but my ex took it *sigh*. i looked at lots of it online, just like what i had, but decided against it. but now want it again! the wonderful moose dishes i ordered from cabelas are wonderful but they are so heavy!! so they are going in the airstream (if we ever get done with it!!!)

frankly, corelle is the best thing i can find but for me it isn't the best thing

the decorating is a part of what i love. love so many of the looks but have to go with rustic. reminds me of things when camping as a kid. have 2 pendelton indian blankets and little wallpaper border for over the tiny shelf in the galley. it has old camping/fishing signs.

since we're taking off on the 20th i should have the fun stuff in place within the next week or two.. hoping the weather cools down some it is really nasty on me.

i love to see what people have done with their tears and also pictures taken while camping. those are fun. so many look like the tear exploded and it scares me because ours is going to, also. just have a hard time keeping track of it all. and very lazy to stuff it all back together. afraid it will be like one of those things that comes out of a box but will never go back in. or, kinda like unzipping a file.

wish i could have built our tear. am really thrilled with all of you who have been able to do that. i loved to run the saws and smell the fresh wood and breathe all that dust in and gag all night oh just kidding about the last...

can't believe we are finally going camping again!

Cajunlady: Our tear should be arriving the end of October. As soon as we are set up will learn how to post pics. Since it is only Tim and I...I purchased beige with yellow trim granite plates, 2 granite soup bowls, faux bakelite yellow handled silverware, thick plastic glasses and 2 melamine plates. Guests will be using "Chinet" ha ha. E-bay has become a friend lately...purchased chenille spreads to cut up for duvet cover and bolster pillow cover. I'd like things to be retro but not inspite of function or comfort.

Lynn: Love the faux bookcase in the inkwell! So appropriate. Went online to find the titles of your books. Will add to wishlist.

Amy: Can't imagine the horror you must have felt when the teardrop took off on its own. Good thing we can laugh afterwards. Did you inlay the design on the sides? It is beautful!

Elizabeth: I'll join the group who did not build and, I too, remember the smell of freshly sawed wood. My Dad was a wood worker. My husband does not have time now but he built our 1st color TV, my sewing cabinet, grandmothers (smaller than grandfathers) clock, shelves, bunkbeds for our then toddlers. Thanks for info n dishes, etc.

Hope to meet some of you in our travels...if our plans work out... but in the meantime I too will be lapping up all the forums.

I bought one for myself and my son and soon to be daughter-in-law. I have yet to use mine since Dusty and Jamie always bring theirs along. The two things I don't like very much is how heavy it is and the sink part. I find when you put too much water in it, it tends to close up. I put some clamps on it to stop that and it worked. But that's why I built my washing table. I do love the 2 storage compartments for the food and other things on the camp kitchen though. We get a lot of "that's cool" when campers see it.

Anyone going camping this weekend? I wanted to but it's our 30th anniversary. Brian's not a camper so I didn't think he would appreciate it if I went alone...heck, that is probably why we are still married for 30 years!

thank you for the tip about the sink. are you saying that it sort of folds up from weight? actually i had thought of using that to hold simple rubbermaid dish pans. if it buckles maybe that would help?

i decided on that kitchen because we were going to buy a table and just wasn't happy with what i could find for the price. our cute galley is very small and don't want to attempt to use a stove on there, so wanted something to put the stove on. the kitchen has 1) a holding table, 2) a stove table, 3) a worktable and supposed place to do dishes.

but the storage bags were the huge selling point. i need all the organizational help i can use. and the rack to hold utensils will save lots of rattling around. just don't remember where i put things and robert suffers man syndrom. you know, if it isn't front of shelf & eye level he can't see it.
