Love Affair Gone Sour ? - Hornets Yes - Missiles No

Read this ... This was on Tv Before..

http://www.hs.fi/english/article/US+ref ... 5224850681

US Sells Finland Hornets but no weapons to go with it..Thats like being able to buy a gun but cant buy bullets.

How Stupid.. Now tell me that aint Bush ... And the present Administration:?

And Finland has been honored and praised many times by the USA as a Good Friend and Ally..Even when Bush visited Finland. And By Previous US Presidents and Officials.

Someone is filling us with propaganda on this issue.

Bull Droppings. Straightout.

Sure makes me wonder...What happened with Mr. Bush and Our President Mrs Halonen. ?    Maybe its all due to jealousy from Bush because Conan O Brian visited her? :rofl2:

 I can't remember which weapons system it is but (we) recently refused to sell it to the British and we depend on them to buy most of our weapons just to help with the cost. BTW the missile (we) won't sell is just a fancy air to ground missile, I'm sure the russians or the swedes probably have something comparable  And the plane will carry a wide range of missiles probably more than 10 different types.

I don't know if I should laugh or take offense to the first line in the story Heikki linked to.

"Officials in the Untied States have rejected a preliminary request by Finland to buy JASSM air-to-ground missiles for the US-made Hornet F-18 jet fighters used by the Finnish Air Force."

On the other hand, Untied States might not be so far from the truth, given the devisiveness of our government.

Heikki,

Here's a link on the JASSM.

http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/smart/jassm.htm

It is not unusual for allied nations (read: friends) to not get all the latest greatest weapons available for a specific aircraft. It may just not be allowed for now, however sometime in the future it may be approved.
Heck, that missile is very new, I'm not surprised the State Department has not allowed it's wide spread export. Like already mentioned, there are many other types of very capable missiles out there. I am certain your government is very well aware of some. The article mentions the SLAM-ER, here's some info on it:

http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/smart/agm-84.htm

Thanks for sharing the news story.

Thanks for the links Earl I read thru them and after getting thru the military verbage, I was able to see what they were wanting to buy. It's basically an air launched cruise missile. With a range of 2400mi, Finland can launch against targets all over Europe without leaving home.

Finland has never been the agressive one.. never. Its been the neighbor to the East and The so called Economy Engine of Europe.

Who knows where it will be from next.

Throughout History The Finns have always fought a foreign military on their own. And managed .

Nothing has changed to that effect. Nato or no Nato.

I thought it's always been that way--that we give countries certain systems, but in order to placate our enemies, we don't give them everything they need--so we can tell our enemies that it can't be used for offensive purposes against them.

In this case, I would think that we're kissing Russia's ass, as if Finland is going to attack THEM. There's nothing they would want there ANYWAY, except for oil. And if Finland attacked, I bet 75% of the Russian army would DEFECT.

Not getting paid for 6 months kinds of screws with the soldiers' morale, you know?

Russia is really effed up these days--they're feeling kind of paranoid, and for good reason.

   Its been said by Russian Officials many times over that the Finns are a Fearsome Tactical Force when under pressure... as also History teaches.. that same feeling is amongst the Finns today.. And it was given to us by our Grandparents..

And ask any Finn what they feel about the neighbor next door..that live within Finland and beyond our borders..Its not a positive reply for certain.

This wont change..for generations even if then..and I know for sure where my gun would be pointed if necessary...

As my grandparent said and the veterans of the few that are still living..
Russian is a Russian even though you cook them in butter.

Classic Finn ;)

And as far as oil .. Russia has the open and close valves on the pipe lines to turn it off if Europe starts playing with them.. now what a weapon that is...  Theyve closed the lines so many times before as a threat and it wont be the last ...

What makes Russia so dangerous--but at the same time makes them so ripe for real change--is that nothing is working there, and they DON'T have the people behind them.

Take Putin away, put a real forward-thinking leader in there, and things can start getting better for them.

THEN they become truly dangerous.

Right now, it seems like they just live with a huge inferiority complex, looking to pick fights based on it, and they can't totally abandon their old ideologies because that would be to admit that their system didn't work in the first place.

Even Vietnam has embraced capitalism, and while I would also mention China in this analogy, they're a TOTALLY different animal.

That government is just plain nuts.
