I Killed Norton! Need new antivirus?

Postby Podunkfla » Wed Sep 05, 2007 12:04 am

OK... I killed off Norton Antivirus. It was causing problems since I didn't renew my subscription. What do you folks use? Avast? AVG? I'm open minded... but I'm also running nekid right now. (not a pretty picture, sorry). I just need something that does the job and doesn't cost a fortune? Suggestions???

Brick, I used AVG for years with no complaints...switched to Avast last year and found it scanned deeper and more comprehensively than AVG...also has more frequent updates...bottom line is...I am very happy with it............

We're still using AVG. The beginning of the year they came out with a new free version. It seems to do some sort of update everyday & more extensive ones every so often that the computer needs to be restarted. It seems to everything automatically, so I don't need to remember to check for updates or to do scans or anything.
No complaints so far.

Avast.com use it free for a year, like MJ said, it cleans deeper.

If you were using the norton suite, you almost might think about using Ad-Aware available at lavasoftusa.com for free and Spybot Search and destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html also free. to remove spyware and adware.

Have fun Brick

I've used Ad-Aware. A few years back I got a Trojan or something very nasty & in doing research is when I discovered Ad-ware & bought the lowest level which I could have free add ons. (I needed one of the add ons) It saved my computer.

I have used them both for years... Here's a cool option too: HitmanPro
Hitman Pro is a freeware tool that combines a number of powerful anti-spyware programs in one integrated solution. In nearly all anti-spyware reviews, the conclusion is that none of the anti-spyware programs removes all spyware. A combination of two programs is recommended.

This is exactly what Hitman Pro does: it combines Ad-Aware SE, SpyBot Search & Destroy, Spy Sweeper, Spyware Doctor, CWShredder, Spyware Blaster, and some more... You choose which ones to run, it does the rest... automatically... Pretty cool way to clean up a corrupted PC. I have used it quite a few times on friends computers (and mine).

I'm going with Avast for now... Free is good.

I use Avast, and it's free for home users, the registration is supposed to last 18 months, and all you have to do is re-register and keep trucking.

I also use Windows defender to keep spyware down.
