I have used those kind of fittings before. You will want to re-inforce them with woodglue or something. If too much force is placed on them, the prongs will give, but it looks like you have enough to distribut the load. Lowes also offers a threaded shaft that doesn't rely on prongs to hold it in place. Six in one hand half a dozen in the other.
