Doggie Vacation Tips while you're in Morro Bay

Postby Esteban » Wed Sep 05, 2007 10:57 pm

Doggie Vacation Tips.

There's a beach stretching a couple of miles between the north end of Morro Bay and Cayucos where people take their dogs. Turn off Hwy. 1 at Santa Ysabel, it has a traffic light, then go a couple blocks northward on the beach side frontage road to a parking area and walk from there. It's an uncrowded beach your dog will love. Be careful, dogs are not allowed on the beach in the City of Morro Bay.

I've read that Tognazini's Dockside II seafood market and outdoor restaurant in Morro Bay is dog friendly. Tognazini's Dockside Restaurant next door is one of my favorites for tasty seafood.

Long range weather forecasts are hard to be accurate, with the coast there are some different variables. Also depending on which weather forecast you look at, it will show different answers.
For Mendocino there was supposed to be fog, fog & more fog. Actually we had lots of nice sun & the weather was beautiful.
If you pack for dressing in layers, then you can be good for a wider range of temps. It should be cool at night & it will just depend on how much it warms up during the day, but shouldn't be roasting weather.

Being a local on the central coast. Layers are always the way to go around here. Be prepared for hot and cold weather.

Someone e-mailed me asking if we had a Costco close to the gathering so I thought I would let everyone know. When you get off the freeway exit you will pass a Costco and Home Depot (Home Dipo).

Costco is on the left side of Los Osos Valley Road heading towards the coast from Hwy. 101. Los Osos Valley Road turn off is newly marked as Exit 200 off Hwy. 101. Costco sells 20 lb. bags of ice for $1.99 - they're by the cash resisters. The Costco gas station will be closed Tuesday 9/12 to Thursday 9/13 and reopen Friday 9/14.

If you are a member Costco has a gas station seems to be lower then most but our gas is higher then most other areas??... If you are not a member of costco.. there is a gas station just west of the freeway that sells gas cheeper too and also sells diesel.
Costco was 2.94 on 09/07/07
There is a Shell about a mile down at Madonna just after HD and costco...

Los Osos has 2 gas stations both have the same price $2.99 one 76 and one Shell.
The 76 sells diesel
Morro Bay has several too.
If you want farm fresh Veg.s here are the dates and place to catch our roving county farmers and there goods.

Montana de Oro gathering

Postby Teardrp DeBono » Sat Sep 08, 2007 12:18 pm

We are getting excited about the upcoming camping event but somehow I've missed the potluck info. What am I to bring?

We will be coming on Thursday and hopefully arrive before 2:00pm. Juan Aldana will be caravaning with us.

We are leaving our doggie at home this time because it said no dogs on the beach and we couldn't take him to the SLO Farmer's Market last time we were there.

Someone kindly tell me what to bring for the potluck and we are set to go!

Hi Deb and Dan,

We never made suggestions for who should bring what for the pot luck on Saturday. If you have a Dutch Oven you may get some inspiration from Matt and Joanne's cooking class. We're bringing a T&TTT Dutch Oven Cookbook to the gathering so people can look up recipes. Bring whatever you want or get inspired to cook. At the gathering we can have sign ups for salads, main dishes, deserts, etc.

Montana do Oro has no established meeting area, room, or shelter for the pot luck. We can move "extra" picnic tables together, probably in the center of the back loop, for a pot luck gathering place. We'll not have enough tables and seating for everyone just by using them. It'll help for people who can do it to bring folding tables and chairs.

Chris M. "Italia" and I will be BBQing tri tip steaks Friday to feed as many people as we can. Randy and Cyndie Mac have a wood fired Cowboy BBQ pit that they've offered to share with us so come gather around on Friday.
