I'm assuming those "prime spots" are near the potluck area so that they can do the DO seminar? doug

I am with Ken & George. Saving spots should not be allowed under any circumstances. Unless, of course, you are saving them for me. And that is okay.

Actually, to be perfectly serious about it, I will be arriving by motorcycle at about noon on Thursday. But my wife with the van and the trailer and the food will not arrive until just before dark. If I set up my awning and park my motorcycle under it until my trailer arrives, is that considered "saving a spot".

If anybody objects, I may have to bribe them with a sidecar ride. :D

"Prime" is in the eye of the beholder, I think being out in the wilds of SLO will be Prime! and I have cast ironitis and geocacheitis, and old camperitis so I need a sub prime spot so none of you catch it!!!

Calm down.

Chris said she's saving 2 good spots for Joanne and Matt near the gathering area. They're the only ones she's saving for particular people. It's a thank you courtesy Chris felt like doing for Matt and Joanne out of respect for them putting on the DO cooking class for us all. They didn't ask for VIP treatment. They can take them...or any other open spot.

Chris felt she *might* need to pay for a couple nicer spots in the back loop area starting Wednesday, just to keep them empty, so people who are not part of the gathering don't camp and stay in them during the time we'll have the gathering. Saving spots for us all to camp together is taking a little gentle finesse by Lana and Chris. All the rest of the camp spots, except the two saved for Matt and Joanne, are first come first served for anyone/everyone on the page 1 RSVP list.

She encouraged a van of homeless people not to camp and stay in the back loop for the week, too. They might have liked the pot luck. Probably we'll invite anyone in the campground to visit and pot luck with us if they want to.

Lana, the camp host, assigns camp spots. When you arrive you can drive through the campground to find one you like. Leave a chair or something in it. Then go to space 22 where Lana lives and officially sign up and pay her. She'll give you a reservation slip to clip onto a wood post by the campsite to show you're paid and that it's no longer available. It'll go something kinda like that. Chris, or I, or Lana will also check you off our list of people who are coming and say "Welcome!"

Chris cautioned that the raccoons at MdeO are the size of well fed dogs and aggressive thieves. Don't leave any food out or it will be gone.

I went by the SLO Ralphs Market today looking for a charcoal starter chimney. Tri tip was $6.68 a pound. Ripoff. If you don't need a large quantity of food like Costco sells then the best food prices in town are available at Food4Less on South Higuera next door to Trader Joe's. It's a nice twofer. I posted a map and the address a page or 2 above.

Short lesson on how to get there is to turn off 101 at exit 200, go inland one long block, at the T intersection turn left on S. Higuera St., go about two blocks and Food4Less and Trader Joes will be on your right.

But we cannot wait to to hit the road for a week.

We have no problem with Chris holding spots for them.

I'm picking up the trailer I'm camping in early Tuesday. I may leave to camp that afternoon because I'm anxious to start the fun part of the gathering. There's no WIFI in MdeO. I'll leave a Gone Camping message when I sign off the net for a few days and head for the coast. :D :) 8)

Steve, this is what you said:
Chris and Lana are working together to save prime spaces for Joanne, Matt and others.

And which Chris are we talking about? Is it that tall good looking blonde that lives in the Santa Maria area? ;) At all gatherings it's okey to save spots for the committee. It's also alright for anyone to come Saturday and visit. Mater of fact, it's encouraged but if they are going to stay for the pot luck, I hope they also bring food (camp host excluded).

And there is nothing wrong with moving tables for the pot luck. You just have to put them back where they came from afterwards. We've had a vintage trailer & teardrop gathering down at Morro Bay S.P. for the last three years and move the tables together for the pot luck, with no problem. And their rules are probably more strict than at Montana de Oro. I'm not jumping your case, just talking. Your doing good for one who has never been to a gathering.

P.S. It should also be noted that when we leave the camp site, it is cleaner than it was when we got there.

I'm bringing my kayak but I don't have a clue about "good direction." I guess from there the only bad options would be east and down.

Be aware Bruce and Sue, if you paddle too far south, near Diablo Canyon power plant, the Coast Guard patrol boat may intervene.
