When I lived in Winston-Salem, North Carolina the was a Drive Inn Theater in a little town north of there called Mt. Airy. (Also Andy Griffith's Home town) Used to go up once a month and watch a move.

There is, or was, A Drive Inn theater in Blue Ridge Georgia.
It seems that they are a dying bread here, which is sad.

The Drive Inn Restaurant has made a comeback with the fast food chain "Sonic Drive In" http://www.sonicdrivein.com/index.jsp

Down town Atlanta has the Famous "Varsity Drive Inn" too. Gotta LOVE there Chilli Dogs!!!Mk

The Drive In is still in Blue Ridge. Took the family there often when the boys were in Middle/High School. IIRC it is called the Star light Drive IN.
Edited: (Wife reminded me, It's the Swan Drive In Theatre.)
Gotta love those Varsity Chili Cheese dogs

Oh yeah... I can't go to Atlanta without going to the Varsity. What an amazing place! It's fun to sit inside and watch them crank out the orders... and get 'em right too. Wendy's, Hardy's, Burger King, et. al... could learn a lot from them on how it should be done?

Drive Inn Movie Theaters or Resturants

Postby westexan » Thu Sep 13, 2007 2:18 am

I took both my daughters (in their 20's) to the drive in movie theater in Springfield, Co. First and only time they ever got to experience one - so far. I also pass by a movie drive-in when I go to Oklahoma that's located in Lamesa, Tx. I remember getting my 'jamas on, getting into the station wagon, going to town from the ranch to watch the show. It was my "vhs-dvd" experience of the 50's. I actually wonder why anyone would want to watch a movie more than once or twice when the vcr machines came out. I'm not all that old, but how the world is changing just during my lifetime! I can only imagine how much the tech has changed during my parents' lifetimes....

Heikki there's a Drive in Theater in the middle of Tampa, Fla. (aproximately 1 million population within 20 miles of city center)about 15 miles from me.
http://www.fun-lan.com/home.html
been there 3 or 4 times in the last couple of years, but it's too hot in summer
and there's Sonic Drive in restaurants all around
http://www.sonicdrivein.com/index.jsp
there so many different places to eat around here that I don't get there very often, maybe once a year. When I lived in rural Georgia it was a lot more often.

Oh Ya..
There is a drive in theater in Everett near us, but the freeway & other modern stuff keeps creeping closer to it....
Don't know how long they'll hold out against the increased property values and taxes

Heikki, as a young buck, dating different girls every weekend, I absolutely had a ball going to the drive in theaters. Then when I went to a flick with my buddies, we were able to sneak 3 guys in without paying, as they hid in my rumble seat. Can't believe we were able to get 3 guys in there.

Having been there, done that, under no circumstances let any of your daughters go to a drive in theatre.........ever! How can I ever forget all of those kisses in the darkness of my little 1930 Chevy, ah those were the days. And BTW, I still enjoy them from her yet today, even after 55 years! Wow, she was only 18 when I married her, ending my night time, drive-in capers. Thank goodness.

One night, after driving wildly and sliding corners on gravel streets, prior to going to the drive-in, a police car came driving back and forth in the isles, with parking lights on, apparently looking for some law breaker. He passed in front of my car, then stopped behind me and threw the guy in the drivers seat of my car over the hood! He stammered that the 'real' driver was in the back seat.......ME. Hence, I got slammed over the hood and got a ticket for reckless driving, embarassed me in front of my girl and got my car taken away from me by my Dad. How did I know that some bystander would report my licence plate number to the cops. Ah yes, I remember the drive-ins well.

Roly, going down memory lane, one more time. ;)

There's a pretty good drive in here in Napa Valley. In fact it won a James Beard award for food ( I guess a really big deal to foodies). They make a great burger, and a mean vanilla Malt....

Being in Napa Valley, it is a bit more "upscale", here is the menu for you to drool...

They opened a diner in San Francisco and another Diner is coming down Valley, withing walking distance of my house, now that's good news.

In the Detroit - metro area there is a drive in with 9 screens in the summer and 6 screens in the WINTER. We go there all the time. For two adults and two kids it less then $20 for two movies. In the winter you can see two movies and be back by midnight at the latest and a crowded theater in the winter will be one that has 6 cars in it.
