I just called my buddy in Port Arthur. The storm actually hit hurricane force before running aground. The eye went over his house. 85-mph top winds ahead of the eye. The back side was a lot weaker.

Other than losing electricity from downed power lines, he said the storm didn't do much damage in Port Arthur.

They are still rebuilding from Rita in those parts (the forgotten Hurricane).

That storm went from a depression to a Cat-one hurricane in no time. Wow.

It was east of us. I watched the news last night and it was just 60 mph winds.
I woke up this morning and hear it was a cat 1 hurricane. And it directly hit the beach where we fish at.
They have the road closed from downed power poles. Hope the beach didn't get washed away.

...by the time the eye passed directly over us the winds had dropped to around 30mph...along with only 3"s of rain, it wasn't even a good equal to a serious thunderstorm...of course, SW of us, they got a good bit more than that......

I hope everyone is alright. The news this morning showed houses that lost the roof. You are in my prayers.

The little town of High Island got the worst of it. The houses there are old wood-frame houses -- or were, anyway.

Sonetpro, my buddy has a beach house at Crystal Beach, and he was going down there last night to check on it. I imagine the beaches near Sabine Pass got hit the worst, but the storm didn't last that long. The surge was pretty small, too.
