Learn to Fly

Postby Rev. Ken » Fri Sep 14, 2007 9:26 pm

Hey I saw where Scott (jst83) said he had been training to get his pilots license but it got too expencive. There is a new license out called a sport license. I'm going to get one when I get some money saved up. It costs less than half of a regular license and it has some limits, fly only during the day, one passenger, 10.000 ft ceiling. Nothing about that bothers me.
you can read about it here http://tinyurl.com/pcw88

Mine too, I have been fortunate to fly and have flown a Cessna 150 solo. Nothing like taking an airplane into the sky yourself for the first time with no instructors. Very nerve-racking and liberating, I cant even put the feelings to words but beware it is a very exciting, addictive and expensive hobby you can even build your own plane check it out!

I find flying a fixed wing aircraft gets boring pretty quickly. Up high, enclosed in a cockpit, moving fast. That's why I fly a open cockpit, slow, low, PPC. Nothing like flying through canyons, skimming along a river, chasing coyotes. To each his own.

I learned to fly in an old Piper tail dragger and would love to fly that plane again. The Sport Pilot license will get more of the older pilots back into the air since no medical is required, only proof of a valid drivers license. More info can be found here:

Roly......and you're right, that very first solo is the second most exciting thing that I have ever done, but is was close to the first.

Tanya use to have a multiple engine license. Gave it up because we had better things to do with our money. Even with the Sport license, it still cost to rent a plane. There ain't no way we could have our own. But it still may be worth while looking into.

Before me, she was married to a Thunder Bird.

Had a teacher in school that would say.
"You can get ya a J-3 Cub, fly it near the interstate and watch the semis drive by."

He had a PA-28 Super Cruiser that he sold, somebody from overseas bought it and shipped back. He had just finished his RV6 and couldn't justify having 2 planes.

hey Rocky,

Built RV6 ten years ago. When you had to actually build an airpalne and have fun doing it. Today it is worse than having to build one of those LEGO projects. Sold of all that, bought a bi-plane , loved it but--- too much testosterone---thought it might be a good idea to live a little longer--but boy it sure was FUN-- now I have a Cubby and teardrop. Go figure??? This is where all the cool people in the world hang.

A buddy is building an RV-7A he's kinda anal so it should turn out really nice. Haven't talked to him in a while but I'll bet it is on hold since they had a baby a while back.
