Starting A New Career At 50...

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Dean-

Best of Luck. From what I read on this board - you should do very well.

About 10+ years ago I kept my day job and started to work part time at the local brew pub. Always wanted to learn to brew and to use someone else equipment and materials is great way to learn. And the brewmaster had all kinds of experience - from Jones Brewing to mega brewing at Bud.

Now that he is retiring we are looking at opening our own brew pub. If all goes well - :worship:

Keep us posted as to how it goes.

Good Luck Dean,
I did the same thing 18 years ago, went from remodeling to catching dogs, got tired of chasing a paycheck and benefits.
Good luck your decision took courage!

Dean,

What a major move. I'm sure it will be terrific with all the thought and planning that went into the decision. I just wanted to wish you well. :applause:

Thank You All,
Well... I took great pleasure having my business telephone service disconnected this morning... The office is quiet for a change.
I kid you not... Out of every 100 calls, all but 2 maybe 3 tops were solicitation calls. I stopped taking live calls about 5 years ago and started screening all calls through voice mail.
Junk faxes were even worse, they'd come at all hours day and night.
(All that even AFTER signing up for do not call lists)

Dean,

Congratulations! I have changed careers 5 or 6 times (including today - I actually quit my PODS facility manager job today) since retiring from the US Air Force in 1995 at the age of 44!

Sure hope you enjoy your new found career!!

Dean, I am happy for you and heartbroken for us. When you posted that you were making a career change, I just knew you were going to be "Iron Chef ... Cast Iron Master."

Good luck Dean. I bet it feels good to get off work and leave it there and not have to worry about it.

Glad to hear you made the choice that works best for you. It can be tough but the insurance thing sure is a deal maker/breaker these days.
Good luck, hope it works well for you!!
