Did you have any brushes with fame?

Have a new one, we went to see Spam-A-Lot in Vegas a couple months ago. The lead role was played by John O'Hurley (Seinfeld's J.Peterman). After the show, we went to a bar inside the casino (Wynn) for a few drinks. Apparently the cast had the same idea, J.Peterman sat at a table next to ours and had drinks. We didn't bother him cause he was with his wife.

Back in the 70's when I was in college in Portsmouth, England I used to hang out in a pub right next to the Kings Theatre (I think it was called that) -- after shows varies people would be in the bar, --- it was at that time I was an extra in the Who movie "Tommy" with of course The WHO and Elton John, Eric Clapton....I've moved on since those days...but did perform the marriage of John Fogerty (CCR) in the 90's...more recently I've found myself rubbing shoulders with David Kay (UN Weapons Inspector) Porter Goss (Former head of the CIA) and John Ashcroft (Former Attorney General) ----- ain't it funny where life takes you!

Now that i think of it i have met alot of sports stars to many to list.

coming from the state of hockey(MN) I've met quite a few hockey players who either move up north after retirement or vaction here regularly. Bret Hull Being the most famous.(still has strong ties with duluth somehow met him when i worked up there)

With a NHRA Nationals track in town i get to meet racer's every year. John Force is usually growly but who can blame him i think he gets 2hrs of sleep a night but his daughter ashley isa sweetheart. Larry Dixon is a genuinely nice fella and Anglle Sampey has got to be the friendliest person i've met

and I've also have met alot of Motocross riders over the years. Jeremy McGrath,Ricky Carmichal,Kevin Windham. Most of these guys are really down to earth and very approachable.

Dennis Hopper

Postby deserthawk » Thu Sep 20, 2007 10:03 pm

When I lived in Taos, New Mexico in the early 70's I was personal friends with Dennis Hopper during his "black period".....also sat at the table next to Steven Segal.......met Goldy Hawn and her daughter at another restaurant........worked as an extra in a movie with Candis Bergman and Lee Marvin.............and one time up on Old Tapanga Road in Los Angeles back in the late 60's I won a red mountain wine drinking contest with non other than the infamous Charley Manson! I did not like him from the minute I layed eyes on him.

I had our current Prime Minister (John Howard) walk out of a toilet straight into me and apologize profusely. Also had him wish me and my wife all the best on our wedding day as we pulled up to our wedding reception we were having at the golf club he plays at. He was being rushed out before our guests got there, we were there early for photos etc.

Cheers

I drove Paul Peterson from the Donna Reid Show around in a parade a few years back.

I've also had dinner with Martin Milner from "Route 66", met several of the actors in "Midway", Charlton Heston, Henry Fonda, Glenn Ford, and Robert Mitchum when they were filming at Long Beach while I was stationed there.

My mug was on Entertainment Tonight as I was bodyguarding Scott Wolf when I lived in Chicago in the mid 90's. He was on the tv show party of five.

Being a musician has given me several brushes over the years with famous
musicians. I had the urinal encounter with tom waits at one of his concerts.
We (the band) bs 'd our way into a bluegrass festival in west va summer
of 74 I think.
They liked our band so much they asked us back.I got to know Grandpa Jones fairly well. We talked about bass fishing alot.
Once we were on after Doc Watson.. While i was setting up
I felt a tap on my back and turned around to see Doc standing behind me.
He asked if i would not mind helping him offstage.Excited to be actually
standing next to one of my heros I grabbed his arm and said "sure.."
He said "No i will grab your arm(blind person ettiquit i was unaware of.)
In the early 80s a friend of mine and I were playing in an acoustic duo.
In a small pub in stowe VT. After we got done we were approached by a woman who asked if we wouldn't mind bringing our instruments
up to the lobby/lounge Living room of the inn. Rita Moreno would like us to join her.We said "you bet" And we sat up there playing while she sang songs
until about 3 am. This was during the filming of the movie the four seasons

My youngest son was an extra in sleepers, prison fight scene. Met the wicked witch of the west in a pub in new york, Margaret Hamilton very sweet woman. used to go drinking with Dr. Joe Riley ( lee patterson) general hospital when his boat was at a boat yard I used to work at. Had coffee with Lenny from Sha Na Na when his boat stopped in at the boat yard on it's way to the vineyard. Peed next to Willy Nelson at a Denny's across from a racket ball court he would visit when playing the area (no we didn't have a conversation). Was doing an advertisement at a local radio station 20+ years ago and shared looks with Natalie Cole in the next booth.

:D Wow....crazy topic......never thought about it much.

Well.....lets see.....as a guitarist, I backed up Eddie Floyd of "Knock On Wood" fame, I also backed up William Bell of "Born Under A Bad Sign" fame.

In my younger days (mid seventies) I was in a band with Rick Richards of "The Georgia Satellites". We were called "Fury". We use to play alot of Stones, Humble Pie, Aerosmith, The Alabama State Troopers and a whole bunch of other stuff in Underground Atlanta.

That was when Underground was a hoppin' place.

Ta da!! My claim to fame!!!! :?
I poked it with a stick..........

I ate lunch with Michael Jackson back when he was black. It was a family reunion in Hawaii. We just wanted to use the bathroom and the whole Jackson Clan was having a picnic at the shelter (where the bathroom was) We were invited to stay. My brother, Sister & I has fried chicken with the Jackson 5!!!
