Got snakes, "Who ya gonna call?"

Sorry to all you snake lovers, I know this one was just after mice, but, while picking up sticks for the evening fire, Linda stumbled across this. She wasn't a happy camper, to say the least. Yes, the faithful dog saw it first!

So, how often do you find a snake at the campground?

Actually, I believe (could be mistaken) that snakes are a protected species. $200.00 fine for killing one.

Edited: Certain snakes and the fine is as high as $5000.00 or 180 days in jail.

Unfortunately an amicable relationship between snake and man (woman) has never developed for the most part.

Had a wonderful black rat snake in my shed and my neighbor killed it and came bragging about it. No, I was a good neighbor. Yes, I had specifically asked him to spare it. Both he and she are deathly afraid of snakes. Brags about having killed 80 or more. Les' see $16,000 dollars? Did I do the math right.

Beautiful snake, wish it were still alive and in my shop.

Looks like a corn snake, they don't bite people, unless they are cornered and beaten with a long stick. They are constrictors and use there teeth to swallow there prey after it is dead. Glad you had a good time out enjoying nature.

I don't know about Okla. but I have heard there are 11 different kinds of poisonous (urk) snakes in Ariz. I think I would have to shoot first and ask questions later..Jim G :) :?

Hey Julie,
You're going to Snake Creek, right? That's where we were! That's just one of several we saw that weekend! Nah, just kidding! :D We were at lake Eufaula. Hope you have a good time a "Snake" Creek. Remember, if you reach down for firewood and it moves, JUST LET IT GO!

As a rule, I leave them alone. With exception of the rattle snakes I've found. I caught the first one alive to prove a point. The lady at the sales office claimed that there weren't any. I brought her a live one so she wouldn't make that mistake again. The other rattlers met the buisness end of my shovel.

The one I caught alive was about 6inches from my hand when I saw him. I was installing the door sensors on my garage door when I saw him curled up in the corner. Scared the bejezus out of me! Luckily it was cold so he was pretty sluggish. By the time morning came, he was pi$$ed off.

Haven't seen a snake in a NY campground in a very long time, maybe 15 years...

Of course, I'm camping next week, so maybe I just jinxed that.

OTOH, I had a second job for awhile as the weekend manager/groomer/trainer at a local boarding kennel. Their summer kennel was built on a concrete/gravel pad, with plenty of nooks and crannies. It was home-sweet-snake nest for a colony of black snakes. Before ex'ing the dogs on warm mornings, I used to flip the hose spray across the gravel to 'remind' all the sunners to slither under the concrete pad before bedlam broke out. The one day I forgot to warn the snakes, the resident Bouvier cornered one as soon as I opened her run.

 That was a fun way to start the day...

Well, with most snakes I believe in "live and let live", because most snakes serve a useful purpose. But if they decide to argue or engage in a loud discussion, then my motto becomes, "the only good snake, is a dead snake."

I catch snakes here at work from time to time. I'll get them and take them home and turn loose. It really pisses me off when people kill them. If that was a corn snake (hard to tell from the photo) you prolly could have gotten around a $100 or more from a pet shop. Sorry if my comments are a little harsh but I call it the way I see it.
