Postby Ma3tt » Fri Sep 21, 2007 6:32 pm

I was at a diner and I overheard this little old lady talking about a bel air she had to get rid of so I jumped in my car and drove to Florida and now I have this great car that is worth so much................

MK,

I was just thinking the same thing.
And since I don't want you to make a terrible mistake, if you will just give me a name, address and phone number, I will save you from same mistake.

Shop around and find something on the road. Anything from '69 back would make a good tow car. That ones a good project like rest has said.

Looks like a lot of work just to get it on the road and looking decent Mary K. Maybe a thousand. And that's just a start. If you can get it under a thousand, then maybe it would be worth it. I think if I was you and that's what you want. I'd look around some more. You can get a nice 'ready to drive' 50's era car for $6000 and below. I only paid $5000 for my '59 wagon and I drove it home. And that was here in California. You should be able to get a '54, 4 door post for under $5000 (not show, just a good driver). So take your time and look around.

Brick, Man, busting my bubble huh :( But ya know, all Y'all are probably right... To much $ to restore for my pocket.... :(

Matt,
I was a waiting for that reply. :applause:

Mike, the address is..................................................

Gage, I know, I know...But A Girl can dream can't she? I just see myself pulling my Td with a Classic :disappointed: I have beed keeping an eye out but I'm really in no position to spend that much money right now. But, Maybe one day.

tk, I did ask, but it's his son's car and he was kind of vague about it. I'm deciding it ain't gonna happen. The guys have made valid points. One day I might have a shop and the time and the money to do a restor, it is a dream of mine, but not now...I got to much camping to do... :D

Thanks for all your help guys. I hope someone finds if again and restores it back the beauty it was brand new on the show room floor.

My best friend here, Steve Crapps, has been restoring cars for about 20 years. He mostly did muscle car era Mopars and shoebox Chevys. He has done prolly 50+ cars. He just sold off the last three cars and says he is done with it. He says there was a time he could buy good fixable cars and make a few bucks when he sold them show car restored. Now, he says, even with all his experience and contacts, he cannot do it and not lose big money. He is having a hard time giving up doing something he loves; but, says it is stupid to keep losing money. He bought one house last year for 65 grand in a forclosure sale. I renovated it for him for 30 grand. He sold it for $160,000. and cleared better than 60 G's after all selling costs. Like I told him... do one of those a year and buy any car you want... already restored. I'm pretty much out of it too for the same reasons. Unless it is a very special car at a real bargain price, I'm not interested. Most collector cars are just not bringing enough to make it worth doing any more... Unless you just want the car so much cost is not an issue. Gage has the right idea... buy a good runner and enjoy.

Let him know you are interested but only on the cheap side. If he is going to trash it let you know. Don't press or look hungry but wave $500 at him and leave. 8) Make sure he has you phone number and e-mail address.

I want a 60 something for my trailer but I have a plumber coming on Monday, a dentist appt a week from now and need a first class brake or axle job on my trailer so the Tundra will work until it dies.

Not to worry. I have not made phone contact yet but I will see some of them in about two hours. I will be checking for you.
Ms Betty does not care if it rains, she will look just fine. I had a big computer problem last night but if I get any news I will be in touch.
