The Bull Red's are running

Postby Sonetpro » Sun Sep 23, 2007 4:42 pm

Me and my fishing partner are fishing in the TOBA (Texas Open Beaches Act) red fish kayak tournament next week.
We decided to go down yesterday and prefish and check out the beach conditions to see what Humberto did. It took a direct hit.
Well it destroyed the convenience store there, but it cleaned the beach and packed it down. We weren't the only ones to prefish. There was 18 kayaks there. The usual characters I fish with were doing the same thing.
WHAT A DAY. 18 kayaks and over 200 big fish caught and released. My arms are so tired right now. Me and my partner boated 24 in one day. One of the best days I've had on the water.
Wish me luck for next week, I need a new rod and reel.

Too many pic's. Here's a slide.

Those are great pictures.I went surf fishing today and lost the big red I had on my son's zebco. It sure was nice on the beach. I also saw my first teardrop go by on the beach. Maybe someone from the forum. It was at Mustang State Park in Corpus Christi, Tx. White teardrop being pulled by a green truck. Thanks for sharing the pictures.  Peg

Thanks for sharing with us land locked folks. :D

Kayaks look like fun, but I don't know if I could fish out of one, I'm too clumsy.

You're doin better than me, I've yet to catch anything in the surf worth remembering. We'll be there in a couple weeks, I gotta get my tent camping stuff together and get my license.

Redfish or Red Drum the big ones are the Bulls. They have downturned mouths like carp because their main diet are crabs but they have no barbels (whiskers). An interesting fact is that one man endangered the whole species.

Paul Prudhomme (born July 13, 1940) is an American chef famous for his Cajun cuisine.

The youngest of thirteen children, Prudhomme was reared on a farm near Opelousas, the seat of St. Landry Parish, Louisiana. Members of his family had been active as cooks and in the restaurant business in and around Lafayette, Louisiana. In 1979, he and his late wife, Kay Hinrichs Prudhomme, opened K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen® in the French Quarter of New Orleans. In the early-1980s, the restaurant made the dish of blackened redfish famous. Once considered poor table fare, this fish gained popularity, due largely to the Cajun specialty dish that he created. Redfish were harvested in great numbers until stocks were dangerously low. Various state and federal wildlife agencies and conservation groups began a concerted effort to restore redfish populations, limiting it to sports fish status in almost all coastal states, and regulating other harvests. Redfish numbers have since recovered, making them one of the most targeted saltwater game fish in the U.S.
