I have been planning to use EMT conduit for framing for a shade and shelter over the galley area.
I don't want to use 1/2 in though because I have seen it bend and bow too much in my work. Also, I don't have much faith in the couplings for connections. They aren't intended for strength and a I have seen too many of them split under a load. (I have bent and installed a fair amount of EMT in the past 20 years on the job.)
My plan is to use 3/4 in EMT and use 1 in pieces to make connectors. I plan to weld up some 'T"s but you have to be real careful welding on conduit because of the galvanize. Be sure to have a well ventilated area with a fan blowing the fumes away from you.
Then I will drill holes through the connectors and the "poles" mark each connection with corresponding letters on each part.
Have been wondering if I could mount a 4" PVC under the Tear to carry the "poles". Ues PVC caps with holes drilled to seal the ends?
