5 x 10 Benroy

I would like to stretch the 5 x 8 Benroy generic to 5 x 10. I laid out the 8 foot generic on a piece of 4x8 plywood and it seemed too short. Has any drawn a 5 x 10 generic Benroy?

I can add 2 feet in the middle where the roof is flat but the lines don't flow. I am CAD challenged so I just draw on graph paper. any suggestions appreciated. I'm not ruling out other 10 footers as long as they have the classic teardrop lines.

I did a Benroy that ended up 9 1/2 feet long or so. The trickyest part was the fact that a 4x8 sheet of plywood wouldn't have to work, so I attached part of a second piece to it. If I had to do it over again, I would make sure the seam where the two pieces meet is above the door.

As for design, I had my newly made 4x10 piece of wood, and just started drawing something that looked good. I used a piece of string to help make the curves even, but then just tried something. I like how it turned out.



Once you've got one side the way you like, cut it out and use it for a template for the other. Put the new newly cut pieces back together and sand the edges to make sure they mate well.

I am building one that is about 9 1/2' by 5'. I found 10' long plywood to use, which made it a bit easier. I did increase the height of the sides to 52" because I felt it looked a bit better aesthetically. I still used the curves that Mike provides in the Generic Benroy plans, and with the extra height I think it looks pretty good:

I'm making a 5x10 Benroy. I couldn't find 4x10 plywood so I spliced 2-5'x5'x1/2 to make my 10' piece. My sides are 51". I like my shape. Peg

Yep, it is added on at the bottom. I used a lap joint to attach the extra, and then I added in a decorative strip of walnut to hide the line. Plus the decorative strip worked well with the larger decorative strip. If you look toward the bottom you should see the dark walnut strip. I overlapped the two sections by about 6 inches to give the joint strength, and then I fiberglassed the sides. They look dull in the photo due to sanding them down, but once I add about 3-5 coats of marine varnish it will be nice and glossy again.
