Spelling check

Postby Mark72 » Sat Sep 29, 2007 11:01 am

As I grow older I find myself questioning my spelling on words that I don't use frequently. Or have you ever pecked out a post in haste only to revisit a day or 2 later and realise that have misspelled in such a hurry? It would be nice if that feature were added to the board.

 If you add a google toolbar, it has spell check, I use it on nearly every post. If I remember right, there is an option to add the toolbar just by googling anything. It also has a neat feature called autofill.

Mark,

Not the easiest way, but you can always type your posts into a word processor and spell check it, then copy and paste into your post on the board!!

Mark:

There are spell checkers available on IE and Firefox to solve your issue.

For IE under Tools is a click of iespell that will work.

For Firefox:
1) The first and a must is the Basic Google Toolbar with spell checking.
This tool bar is very useful for posting here on the forum:
Spell checking posts in your browser can be easy with the basic Google Toolbar.

Here is the link to install the Basic Google Toolbar (after install of Ff)

Are you trying to tell me that there are browsers out there that still don't have a built-in spill-chucker?

How 20th century!

Andrew

PS If you use Firefox, you don't need the annoying Google toolbar - the spell-checker is built-in.

i google "dictionary" and check against it. the important thing is not 'how' we do, but that we care enough 'to'.

some forums' postings are so bad that the post cannot be deciphered. there seems to have emerged a new 'text message' language that has been subscribed to by all those more hip than i [= rest of the world!].

I never even looked to see if Safari had spell-checking. It does.

I type so carelessly in forums, that I often have to edit my posts, just to fix the really bad typos.

Good thread -- it inspired me to learn something new about my browser.

I LIKE the toolbar. I use auto fill every couple of days it seems. :applause:

Andrew, amazing isn't it. Our official Language is "English" yet many people can't spell or even write in the correct use of the language. As years go by and the lack of use kicks in, the expertice is diminished.

I make mistakes too, but after I post I try to read and correct misspelling and grammar errors if I see them. I'm not perfect but I learned how to use the language in school (many years ago) and never forgot (everything).

I rely on spell checkers every day since I type my memos for email. Anyone can screw up but knowing what to correct is a good thing.

At least we're trying.
