The Avanti has had more lives than a cat.

The original was by Studebaker, as you know now. Since the demise of Studebaker, the car has been revived several times, and then allowed to die again. It is once again being produced by a company in Mexico.

We did a story earlier in the year about the new company in American Driver.

It's a car with a fascinating history. Google it.

Here is a link to a Winding Road story on the new Avanti. http://news.windingroad.com/auto-news/a ... in-mexico/

There were two or three of them running on the salt flats at speedweek. Very fast, too.

I would prefer a real Studebaker convertible, preferably from the early 50's. A family friend had a series of them when I was growing up. Very distinctive and stylish.

I'm sure that some people might think it's a funky design...but if you think about all the Detroit iron back then....it's a really advanced design considering that it's about 45 years old. I remember seeing them on the road when they first came out...I must have built 3 or 4 AMT models of them. I think it looks a lot better than some of the Japanese Jelly beans on the road today. Just my opinion. doug

They were also built in Youngstown, Ohio for a short time. All the 4 door models were built here. They used a Chevy Monte Carlo frame and driveline. Up to 84,5 or 6 I think before they stopped. Want any parts or jigs?

I'm not sure.
It belongs to my cousin who lives in Tulsa. He invited me to the car show they had recently.
Now I wonder how Andrew did.

Good job everyone.

This is my favorite Studebaker, even the right color, that I remember from my early years.

A 100-point Studebaker Avanti is supposed to be worth $25,000 to $35,000.

There are a couple on eBay now. One is bidding at around $5,800, and the other has a buy-it-now price of $31,250, and no bids.

Seems an original in decent shape could be had for under $10,000 if you shop around.
