Did you have any brushes with fame?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Here's my "brush with fame" I was 12.

Sharon Stone went to a HighSchool I attended for a year (I'm from the next town over). she was a few years ahead of me, so I didn't know her. her parents still live in the same house as far as I know, I drive by it most times I'm home on leave... Carry Grant came from my home town... I know where is house once stood... I never met him ;)

Oh, I have received coins of excellence from a bunch of military types, the highest being the Under Secretary of the Army... shook Gen Petraeus hand.... oh, and met Senator McCain that same day over here too.

I was a roadie & photographer for the Iron Butterfly band for a short time... (yeah, I'm that old) But, I don't think they even got their full 15 minutes of fame? They were a one-hit-wonder, like a lot of groups. I was pretty much stoned the whole time anyway, so I don't remember much. :o ;)

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, honey,
don't you know that I love you?
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, baby,
don't you know that I'll always be true?

That and 'Stairway to Heaven" had to be the song for every kid in my neighborhood driving around in a smoke filled car listening to 8-tracks.....
It still is a favorite of mine. { The song, not the smoke filled car. }
A roadie huh?????
My lady friend of the past 6 years has told me a few things of her days in the 60's Haight days........ If you have ever watched any of the older Dead videos of them at Winterland/Fillmore she was the braided hair dancing girl on stage.
I think back to my thought process back then I ask myself "What was I thinking?"

Had lunch with Ted Turner, Ted kennedy and Con. Claude Pepper in the Congressional Dining room ; bean soup of course, when Ted Turner was lobying for his superstation. It was quite fun. I'm not a movie goer so the funniest was having lunch with afore mentioned Sharon Stone; her mother was having her car serviced at our dealership, they came in around lunch time and looking hungry I asked if they would like something to eat, so off we went. Everyone treated me like a hero for days after........I never let them know I had absolutely no idea who she was until much later!!!!

Oh yeah Wolfix... The last few years before I got married was pretty much lost in a fog of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll. I wasn't doing much clear thinking or thinking at all. I don't regret it though... There will never be another time like that! Hendrix and Janice Joplin doing themselves in did get my attention though. I'm just glad I lived through it. ;)

Swissarmygirl... great picture :D

Tom Waits... I would love to meet him.

My favorite brushes... that come to mind. Getting to meet Eddie Merckx.

We have a film festival in Waterville, and a couple years ago they brought out Easy Rider again [it might have been an anniversary] Peter Fonda was there to talk about it, and sat across the Ilse from me. [ I had just had a bad mountain bike accident so I was not pain killers and muscle relaxants.. so I was suitably medicated for the show] :D

Another Favorite musician I got to meet was Margo Timmins of the Cowboy Junkies.

I once stood next to Kenny Aronoff waiting for the luggage line at LAX. He's a journeyman drummer who has played for John Fogerty (Creedence Clearwater Revival), Avril Lavigne, Rod Stewart, Waylon Jennings and other no-names like that. Being a drummer myself, I wandered over next to him and stood for a couple of minutes afraid to say anything. I finally asked if he was Kenny Aronoff? He smiled and said he was--offered to shake my hand! I told him that I, too, wasn't a musician, only a drummer. He giggled and we exchanged a couple more drummer jokes. He was kind enough to laugh at mine, though I'm sure he had heard them. He had a couple that I hadn't heard. Bags started coming out and he got his. He patted me on the back and told me to keep working in my rudiments. It was only a couple of minutes, but nice to know someone like that can take a minute for a fan.

A blues harp (harmonica) player that I used to play with played with Bonnie Raitt for part of a tour once. He said that she's 1) tiny and 2) a sweet down-to-earth person.

Well, I have had a few brushes but the ones that I remember the most was when I was working central control for the sport car races. James Garner was the race marshal one year and I got to spend some time with him. He had a ball listening to the corners when they called in, didn't want to leave. Then there was Tommy Smothers of the Smothers Brothers fame. He was racing and had another car that a Dr. out of Calif.
was driving. He was very nice to me and my son but was actually very rude to most people. He gave us a tour of his car and left word to make sure we knew where he was at all times and made sure we had something
to drink. I was working right above his pits but the main reason he was so
nice was because my son is blind. He gave him a spark plug out of his car
for a souvineer. Then there was the time that Parneli Jones came here to drive and got mad because he was black flagged and kept right on going for another lap, stopped at the start/finish line, jumped out and started choking the flagman who flagged him. We all had some excitement then.
We met a lot of big drivers over the years that we worked the races.

I forgot about Leon Russell. He lived just a short distance from our business and we had lunch with him a few times. Funny thing is, I didn't
even know who he was until the waitresses got all goofy and told me. We
were in a little out in the country night club one night and there were only about 3 couples in there. Suddenly the door opened and there were quite
a few people came in. It was Roy Orbison and his band and they had been doing a show in Dallas and came out to unwind. The owner asked him if he would do a song for us and he said sure, sent the band out to get their instruments and did a whole show for us. I even got to dance with him.

At my age I have had a lot of years to meet people.

When I was in college, I did the introduction for the actress who played Shug Avery in the COLOR PURPLE. She came to speak at the college.

I forgot to add in my reply from two years ago... I graduated High School with Ashley Judd. Paul G Blazer Class of 86. Nice girl as I remember. Heard she had changed some when we had our 10 year reunion and I don't think she attended our 20 year last year. Course, I don't attend any of the reunions. Figured money was better spent hanging out with my friends without all the noise. ;)
Started many, finished none... Bought a TTT <Sigh> ;)
