:o  At 18 and pregnant I weighed in a 111. At 5' 3" now I weigh too much and it is Mike's fault. May not be able to loose it. Just wish I could control the distribution so Dolly and I could have more in common. ;)

Shall we all post skinny pictures. I think we did that once. 8)

When I graduated High School in 1969, I was 6'1" and 175 lbs. and I'm now 6' and 183 lbs. Of course, in the years between, I got up to 224 lbs,
but with my bad back, the doctor told me if I would drop some weight, I would feel better. He lied!!!! My back still hurts, but my blood pressure has come down, and overall, I feel better.

:) Being vertically challenged (just a tad bit over 5 ft.) doesn't leave me too many places to hide excess body fat. It usually ends up on my butt or my gut. For years I was able to be very active physically and maintain my weight/body fat because of all the exercise. Now that I've passed middle age and find more aches and pains in the knees/feet, it has become harder to keep up the same work-out intensity and weight on the scale. And boy do the pounds pile on! The first year I dated Dean & his kids I packed on a whopping 15 lbs. which took me nearly two years to take off. According to my last physical, I was within 2 lbs. of my "ideal weight" and within 1% of my body fat composition. So now I just have to strive to break even.

My significant other (1994-2001) was a personal trainer and had his own business called "Fit or Fat". He specialized in creating programs for individuals in all walks of life with the goal being to maintain a body mass which was lean muscle mass, with a minimum of extra body fat. He worked out 3-4 hours daily and was in peak physical condition for a 6'4" man. Brain and spinal tumors were his demise and when he passed away he weighed about 135 lbs. His remains ( he was cremated) however were very heavy and the mortician commented on this fact.....lean muscle mass and bone density.

Everyone has to have some fat, but it's that excess, especially around the mid-section where your vital organs are located, that is most damaging. I was always taught that you should watch that area and strive not to be "apple or pear shaped" body-wise. But sometimes, things just taste too GOOD! Now, whenever I go to a TD gathering, I have to wear my "stretchy pants" because I usually come home 2-3 lbs. heavier from eating all that delicious dutch oven cooking. Then I spend all the next week working it off. Darn it! For those of you who have those wonderful metabolisms, enjoy it while it lasts. For those of you who gain weight just looking at food, I can empathize with you. Am I Fat??
No, just Fluffy.

In the 60's when people weren't afraid to jack around with hormones, I was an 85# wimp in 8th grade...Mom and Dad and the local quack doctor in Anchorage....behind the liquor store on Spenard Rd, decided that I wasn't "growing like I should" got me on a series of injections and by the time I was a senior in High School...I was 190 and 6'2"...Unfortunately, I had no coordination during that time...had to give up wrestling, cross country and down hill skiing, hockey, learning how to ride motocross was a real challenge...joints really used to ache....now it is a battle...I don't know if those times have any bearing on my physical health now, but can't help but think it might. I like to think of it as I'm just "husky".....Doug

5"8, 20 years ago I weighed 170 pounds.

at 43 I weigh around 180.

I do a lot of heavy work, so my weight is still a lot of muscle. I have been noticing a little more "gut" than I used to have though. I can still wear the same pants I bought 10 years ago, so I figure I am doing OK.

Quit cigs and coffee just before my 30th b-day.....added on about 20 lbs & my cholesterol shot up to around 230. I thought quitting smoking was supposed to be healthy! :?
As far as the weight is concerned, about 10 lbs of it keeps leaving and coming back.

Mom didn't feed us enough  growing up and between biking, surfing and skate boarding I was 125 lbs @ 68" in High School. I then went up to 145 lbs (in 8 weeks) after my all expenses paid trip to MCRD, San Diego ;) . During my first marriage I was 135 lbs , bad cook and a lot of stress. Now I hoover around 143 lbs to 147 lbs but gained a few recovering from surgery, need to get down to 140 and I'll be happy. I still wear the same size pants as in High School, just not high water like then  . Danny

In answer to the original question, 200 lbs on 5'6" on a man COULD be obese, if the weight is fat in the mid section, or not, if the man has huge, muscular thighs like a running back in the NFL. Those guys are generally not very tall, and weigh well over 200 pounds.

As for all those things you are able to do, physically -- it's good that you can do them, but it doesn't mean you are at a healthy weight. Only a doctor can tell you that, because there's more to it than just weight and height.

I remember as a teenager wanting to "bulk up," like most teenage boys. Now I'd rather be slim and fit as I cruise toward fifty.

I have long, thin legs, so 200 pounds would never work on me.

At 5'11" on a slender frame, my optimal weight would be about 155 lbs. I'm about 15 lbs over that, right now. I need to get serious about a healthy diet and some exercise.

On a funny note, MaryK dared me to ask, "Should overweight people with dogs bring guns to campgrounds?"

Okay MaryK, now you have to do the teardrop dance at LCGII in Elmo's tutu t-shirt.
