potlucks..an observation

This is not to squelch any good cooks or fine food , as the South Central potlucks are always da bomb!!! and we always have SOOOOO much food.

But just something to think about .... with over 100 people at the LCG potlucks , remember that you yourself don't have to bring 100 ears of corn, or 100 cookies or 20 lbs of green salad.... I just don't like seeing someone make or bring a huge bowl of something and then it likely gets pitched.
I don't mind cooking but being one person, I may help pay and fix something with someone else. I know of two DO lovers that make 2 or 3 pots of something.

Of course this rule doesn't apply to Linda's famous Banana Pudding or Trudy's Mountain Man breakfast, or MadJack 's cajun cuisine, or Eddie & Linda's shrimp appetizers....

...geeeee, didn't we just have a thread on this subject...something about "potions" and how much to cook at a potluck...my though is to cook all ya want...leftovers are great for breakfast/lunch/supper the next day(and sometimes the next again).....

There was a real good idea at the SLO gathering. Someone brought a couple of white-boards and markers. We divided one board into sections for salads, side dishes, main dishes, breads, and desserts. Folks could write down what they were planning on bringing. I think it worked out really well. As someone pointed out, it helped keep us from having 14 peach cobblers. (I made my peach cobbler the night before )

Think that for a large gathering a list started before hand on the forum, like
the one on this thread for the LCGII would help people plan their food
before hand, as well.

My sentiments exactly. Maybe people can bring just a pan of crust and blue bell ice cream. I looooove a good cobbler (peach, apple, or blackberry) with lots of crunch crust topped with BB Homemade vanilla .

Well, I have/had NO intention of stepping on any cook's toes... just know I've seen people walk away and go " what am I gonna do with all this?"

So make as much as you want I guess.... like I said, just thinking out loud.

There were sign up lists at Minden, but when you've already driven and brought something then you are pretty much stuck ... but it was nice to see if something was needed.

Well, we have a sticky thread maintained by sonetpro that shows where everyone is camping, why not a similar sticky with a list of people and their foods. That way, those of us who have not made up our minds yet can see what we have a lot of, and what we are short on.

Anyone want to manage such a thread?
