I received my License Holder - Light Today in the Mail..1st off shocked once again. Made in Taiwan.. but ok chromed :thinking:

Other than that it will look good on the Tear..

My question is.. its 12volt.. for VW Beetle..

Can the inside be turned into LED? and How is this achieved? It has one small bulb inside.

Heikki - I have a similar license plate holder/light (not quite as pretty as yours). It too had a regular incandescent bulb, & besides that it was designed to use the chassis as a ground & I didn't want that with my setup. I stripped out the bulb socket & wire, & ordered a small 3-LED light from a vendor on eBay, then I simply glued it in place of the original bulb/socket using 5-min epoxy. You have to be careful to properly align it so the LED's shine downward toward the license but that is no big deal. Even tho I used 5-min epoxy, I let it 'cure' overnight (held the light in place with rubber bands 'til the epoxy set-up, doesn't matter if the rubber bands stick to the epoxy as you can merely trim 'em off). Then I just wired the light into my tail light system as normal. Works great & provides as much light as needed without being too bright. Here's pic of one similar to what I used (I ordered white but they have every color of the rainbow), along with a link to one eBay vendor (there are dozens of vendors that'll ship anywhere in the world) -

Some diligent searches on Internet will show up many sites with LED products. Many have replacement LED products you can use in place of standard incandescent lamps...

After looking in my own lil accessories box I found my original Led light somthing like you mention or show.. but ok the case of crs came upon me during the excitement of receiving this light and license holder today but I have a clear one that is much like the one you show .. I,ll see if I can do the same thing as you did..

Maybe it will work as good.. but I just dont care to have a bulb in this when all else is Led all around.. such as yourself..

I,ll post a pic of it in a bit to show you...

Here is the light I happen to have here at home that is similar to what is shown above..

I,ll give it a try to adapt that to the inside of the new plate holder and light. Whew such a coincidence.. :lol:

Couldnt get much similar than that..

Hmmm looks easier yet... now to locate the correct bulb ...just take the old one out and slip the new one in...

Now to see if they will ship a coupkle over to Reindeerland... :thinking:

But I,ll check here if someone has a bulb like that in Led...

Primary reason I went the way I did was because my license plate holder & light was designed to use the chassis as ground (only 1 wire) & I didn't want that since mine is mounted on the hatch. I couldn't figure out any easy way to add a ground wire & simultaneously insulate the steel of the holder from the aluminum skin so I just stripped out the entire bulb socket/wire & replaced with the 2-wire LED. Simple solution to a probably simple (but vexing for me) problem

Well I did happen to find my Led Light that I mentioned in previous pics on this thread.. I change the light bulb to the Led.. and I got somthing of a pic for you...

Its no more a 10 watt bulb but but a 2 wire 12 volt Led...

Im not good with these night shots but it looks good..

Somewhere you should find an LED light bulb replacement, but the stock bulb is probably bright enough.

I just got done with it a few minutes ago... but Im wondering if its bright enough.. ok well I,ll find out when its mounted... I just used a 12 volt battery to test it..maybe have to get a couple of them bayonnet bulbs yet.. ohh well I,ll get this installed first..

Ohh and wrong license plae for this neck of da woods.. :lol:

I guess the replacement bulbs Led are called Bayonnet 5mm bulbs..havent located any here yet but thats not to say that we dont have them.. I just need to hunt for them .. :lol:
