Anyone going to the Last Gathering? Flying Mustangs

Just wondering if anyone else is interested in WWII fighters, and going to the last gathering. The organizers figure with the cost and age of the pilots and owners that this group will be the last of this size--102 of 254 left flying. They will be in Columbus Sept. 27-30.

Should be a heck of a show. They plan on a formation of 51 Mustangs late in the day. Along with all of the Air Force Demonstration Teams.

I didn't read this thread right off, but sure wish I'd known about this gathering in time to plan for it (like last year ).

I understand the aging pilots tho'...
I remember when Bob Hoover stopped flying the P-51 - his show in the AeroCommander was still great but it seemed hard for him to be as sharp in the old warbird.
In my younger days, I used to tend a bar visited by Arne W. , a Tuskegee airman turned Boeing engineer...great stories.

I saw pics from the first one in Kissimmee and was mad that I had just missed it. Didn't matter because I didn't hear about it till afterwards. I was visiting my parents who live about 75miles from where it was held.

I guess there will be 2 that won't make sinec there was a crash at OshKosh this year.

What a wonderful thing is planned. Kenny and I would have loved to seen it but like Paul we would have needed more time to plan.
Please post pictures. We will have to enjoy it through your eyes.

wish we could go as well. with Mikes job and me teaching school we are kinda limited on time off.... but maybe those guys will come to Amarillo someday...the local airport is right behind our house and they have air shows several times a year. hope you have a great trip/.

Went to the GML Air Show and boy what a show. Didn't have all the tickets to visit with the Legends, but joined AirShowBuzz.com and snagged some pictures besides the hundreds I took. There are some views of the old pilots sitting in Mustangs and they look happy.

The planes were absolutely amazing, sounded great and the 20 plane flyby was worth the whole trip.
