Little Guy Provides A Happy Ending.....

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Sandman,

I am very happy that you got such prompt and courteous service from the folks at Little Guy, and I wish you many happy outings with your new teardrop. :applause:

I am so glad that I found your thread tonight because I recently discovered a serious water leak in my 2006 Little Guy and would never have known that this was such a problem without reading your posts.

I bought a new 2006 6-Wide platform model from a dealer about four months ago (it too had just sat on their lot for a year) and had only taken it on three camping trips when I noticed that it was getting rather musty, some of the cabinet plywood in the trailer was warping, and the back plywood was getting soft in the middle. I was also having an intermittent taillight problem, so I unscrewed the rear paneling to get to the wiring and saw a lot of water stains and mildew under the rear paneling.

I wrote Little Guy this past Saturday and they called me first thing Monday morning. I was surprised that they were dealing with it so quickly. I live in Central Florida and there was no way for me to tow it all the way to their factory, so they arranged to have one of the trucks making a delivery to a dealership in Florida meet me and take my trailer to the factory on it's way back (I'm sorry they didn't do that for you Sandman). They just picked the trailer up tonight and I will wait to find out the outcome in the next week.

Needless to say, your posts have been extremely informative and give me hope that Little Guy will do the right thing. I will be sure to mention this thread when I talk to them again, but I have already been impressed with how courteous and attentive they have been so far. Wish me luck! :worship:

Dave,

Sorry to hear about your teardrop troubles but you can feel confident in knowing that they will take care of you. I spoke with one their production managers , Justin, at the factory in Elkhart after I discovered my issue on my 05 Sport. While many companies would NEVER admit an issue with their products, I was very suprised at how forthright he was about some units that may leak due to the bad angle of the spar staples during manufacturing process.

Do you know if the source of the water was from underneath or coming down from the top??? The top of my 05 Sport was tight as a drum with no water stains eminating from the roof area. It was all coming up from underneath or so I think. The factory was going to disect it to see where the leak occurred but I never followed up to see what the final outcome has been.

I have leak tested my new unit several time and have not found any leaks whatsoever. I am confident that Little Guy builds a great trailer or I would have simply got my money back.

Keep me in the loop about your Little Guy. I expect they will give you the same great service that I got. Best of Luck and hang in there. Joe, Chris, and all the folks at Little Guy do care about their customers.

Dave,

What's the status on your Little Guy??? Are they going to repair it or replace it? I hope you have a happy ending like me.

I talked to Justin at the factory on Friday and they had just received the trailer that morning. I am waiting to hear from them in the next day or so after they have had some time to assess the situation. Thanks for asking, and I will keep you updated.

As the owner of a little guy that falls in this vintage I am very glad I found this thread. I thought the tear was put away for the tear, but I think it needs a real good "check up" before I put it away. Not that I have ever had any problem with leaks. I just need to look. Glad everything worked out for you sandman. By the way I agree, even the small problems I had were resolved right away. Brett

First, Sandman. You've had me from the depths of deep sympathy to the heights of "Way to go, Little Guy!". What a ride.

I am also owner of a similar vintage Little Guy. Literally the day I brought it home, I heard about the couple who had the tongue problem. As I filled out the warranty registration paperwork, I added a comment about the tongue and my concerns that it was also affected and mailed it off.

Two days later, Dave from production had called and left his number. He told me about the problem and why mine shouldn't be affected and then offered to pay for a local shop to check mine out, just to be sure. He gave me the measurement to check and I checked it myself and I was safe.

I'm convinced I'm doing business with a stand up company. Little Guy is all right in my book. Your story just confirms what I already believed.

Howdy Brett and RKH,

Nice to meet other Little Guy Owners on here. The crew at Little Guy has really been great about following up to make sure everything is ok and that I am still happy which I am without a doubt. I believe in the Little Guy name enough to become a future LG dealer. Yep, I am working out a deal to possibily become a LG dealer catering to the Powersports industry. When I was in Canton with Chris and Joe, I mentioned I would very much like to become a dealer but only sell the Sport models and asked if that was possible and they said they would be happy to work something out. As it stands now, you have to order like $26000 worth of LG trailers and I indicated I was only interested in getting the Sport models and then customizing them for Cycle Riders and ATV'ers then reselling. I am very close to pulling the trigger and getting a few units for resale. If I didn't believe in the Little Guy Name, I would not be thinking about becoming a dealer. They are a very stand up company indeed.

This is my first attempt to post pics so please bear with me. I took delivery of a Little Guy 6' wide ten days ago ('08 model, factory-fresh). This Monday I dropped it off at a paint shop. Hopefully will be picking it up Friday.

It's being painted to match my '04 Honda Element: Galapagos Green Metallic. It will be topped off with three coats of clear. Will probably adorn it with accents later but cannot even polish it for 3 months so will have the winter to mull over the aesthetics.

As you will see in subsequent pics, I ordered a stripped down version: no carpet, no cabinetry. Am decorating the walls with a wall mural of a forest. At least that's the plan. I have the mural. A couple of Cabelas outfitter mattresses will cover the floor, resting on a mat that matches what I have in the Element.

Hopefully the first camping trip with it will be in a couple weeks. Shenandoah National Park.

Also pictured here is our usual tent-based camp and my camping buddy, Gidget (5 year old Samoyed) [url]Image

Whose hot rod ?

Thanks, Sonet! :)

The 1924 hot rod is being overhauled at the paint shop. They do paint, bodywork and mechanical there. They are kindly keeping my tear safe by storing it inside.

Since practice makes perfect and I love to show her off, here are more pics of my teardrop roommate. I got into camping because of my first Samoyed, Buck, and Gidget has taken to the trails like no other. She's also ridden shotgun cross-country. Twice, in my Miata.

By comparison, the Honda Element feels like a Winnebego. And the teardrop will be spacious compared to minimalist camping in the Element.

Life should be a journey and camping is definately an evolution.

Gander Mt. trailers on the delivery truck. Reminded me of turtles sunning on a log. Mine's tucked in at the very end.

A teardrop and Miata. Someone close to my own sentiments. I drive a 2006 white/tan Miata. My Honda Ridgeline feels like a semi after driving the Miata.

Hiker Chick,

Your new Little Guy looks so cool with no carpet in it! That is very cool of them to order it the way you wanted it. Not many other trailer companies out there would do that. I am impressed with how nice the quality of wood looks on the inside walls and floor. You have a perfect blank canvas to start with. Can't wait to see what you do to it!

I cut out a hole in my Sport tonight to install the Shore Power Inlet and was quite impressed with the hunk of wood that came out of my Little Guy. It was quite soild all the way through with no voids like most plywood you see at Home Depot or Lowes.

I see you love dogs too!!! My wife and I have a an Austrailian Shepard that I bought her for Christmas 11 years ago and she is going to be our teardrop buddy. She sleeps in the bed with us and likes to curl up where she touches both of us. She can't sleep unless we are both close to her...I have a feeling she will love the comfy confines of our Sport.

Keep posting pics and thanks for sharing. :applause:

Fresh from the paint shop -- nice shine from 3 coats of clear

Because of issues with masking and the grout, they painted the diamond plate. I prefer the diamond plate green over stainless but with my Element, a grey to match the Element fenders may have looked even better.

I'm delighted with the paint shop, they did a terrific job and were a pleasure to deal with.
