It's those months and months of no night and no sun. It's making you all insane!

I guess it boils down to this--the difference between a well built trailer that is safe and "close enough," and one that is built to strict standards is guaranteed employment for pencil pushing bureaucrats!

The Voyager1 name is perfect, because your are the voyager for all the EU folk (or just Finnish folk) who follow the trail you are blazing. It sucks to be the first one to have to cross all the obstacles. You'll be making it a lot easier for the next builders.

Tony I agree it is Horse Arsh Manure   Im laughing now but not before... :? Insane .. :D you have to be to live here...

Tony to be honest I,ll let the people that want to build teardrops here to figure out the red tape themselves...now wouldnt that be baaaad.  No in reality I could write a manual for our Country to cut down the aggrivation and running around left and right in building these here.
I couldnt allow someone to go thru what I did.. Im just not a mean person ..

The bigger companies are making money on these towbars...a lot of small trailer builders went out of business because of this Jan 2007... they just had enough..

Now I found out today that the guy thats a representative in our parliament helped to take this towbar law through and he has never even towed a utility trailer in his life...that goes to show you how many idiots we have making laws they know nothing about..I highly doubt he even knows to this day what a towbar is.. :?

If you look at RV Crazy you will see the Finnish Gentleman that built the real long van with a van trailer behind with a Sauna.. He even states that building things in Finland is illegal and strict red tape..so thats why he fulfilled his dream in Florida...and its true..

Look at that movie .. these guys are in Florida.. ;)

But ok the name Voyager 1 came to me right away when I was asked about the Model name..couldnt come up with anything else..

Heikki, I'm glad things went well for you after what sounds to have been a rough venture.

Having the first home built Teardrop in Finland has presented you with a few hurdles, however you will ALWAYS be the first, no one else will every have such a notable distinction.

Congratulations  :applause:

Congrats! :applause:

With the exception of the EU stuff, I pretty much had to go thru the same type of thing to register mine as a "Travel Trailer". The big exception was that I had more accurate information on the protocol. I too had to get a "Transport Tag" in order to move it (legally). I had to provide the starting and ending locations and the route taken.

When they inspected mine, it seemd that they were more concerned that it wasn't stolen rather than if it met DOT requirements.

Once again, congratulations on your small victory over the system. I know how it feels to get it done, and it feels good.

Heikki,
Congratulations on EU approval. :clapping hands: :clapping hands: :clapping hands: Your not willing to quit has paid off.
I think you can now be classified as an expert of how to get a homebuilt TD trailer approved in Finland.
And a very handsome trailer it is too. :applause:

Heikki... Congratulations on your trailer finally being approved. What a load of BS they put you through. Ahh well, It seems like that nice fellow you met has told you the secret for your next one! Just buy yourself a nice old Kit tag light, or fenders or whatever... and build a tear around it. So, when you go to register you can say: "This is my completely restored 1948 KIT Teardrop. There were quite a few missing parts, but I eventually got it all together". 8) ;)

Thank You Canada Burke... Hurdles they have been.. and many times deep aggression and depression to the system.. has been lurking but then again I told myself I,ll build this no matter what and I wont quit regardless and now its finally paying off..

All the nice support from my friends here on the Forum sure helps...and has helped.. and will help in the future.. Also I know now that no trailers or Teardrops have never been registered here.. and I was told that ours is the 1st true tear American Styled in our country..so I guess I can be proud..and I know the next one will be even better.. as I call this a prototype..

But also being the only one has its disadvantages too as I have nothing to compare it to on sight or in person..  but ok its in the yard and Im continuing on building...

Thanks for the nice comments..it means a lot to me..

At least I hope not.. ;)

Thank You Martha

No Id put my family and friends to shame to quit this project and I didnt so Im very glad... ;)

Im beginning to like our tear more and more as it nears completion..even though its not perfect by no means..

Thanks Again for your nice words.

I guess I can help homebuilders to get their trailer built according to the Laws here.. easier than starting from zero .. as I did..

Thank You Brick... It was a long and bumpy road to say the least..  Yes the guy that came over gave me the direct scoop on the entire thing..

He also told me that Finland is about the only country where our own safety laws and requirements are still used..even though we are in the Eu..and its sad for old car builders as well as tear builders he stated and I cant agree more..to his words..

But ok one tear almost under my belt... and also I have had numerous great Instructors here on the Forum...and without you all I couldve never gotten this far...

So as Ive stated before our tear has all your signatures written on it..
and it means more to us than you could imagine..and Brick your no exception..Thank You Brick..

Well congratulations!

I applaud your effort. If I had to go through all that work to register my toy, I don't know if I would do it. Your accomplishment is definitely something to be proud of.

Oh, I was going to ask...

You said you have rush hour there?!?! Reindeer backup??

Its the size of the hatch that is tuff to hold in the air opened alone..  But the worst is past.. asap were goin campin rain or snow I dont care.. tear dont leak anywhere that Ive found out..

It could be we may go up to Lapland and Count the Stars... 8) 8) or Reindeer if no stars..
