Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Al is not unlike a lot of politicians, if not most of them... And, I am not pointing the finger at just him. In that they think because they came from a well heeled family and were afforded a fine education that they are thereby an anointed member of the ruling class. They act like it is their job to make policy to keep the rest of us unwashed peons in line. Of course, they don't think these rules should apply to the anointed ruling class. Typical "do as I say, not as I do" attitude... Sadly, Congress is full of such people. We all suffer for it. :(

Courtesy of Jay Leno:
Congratulations to former Vice President Al Gore. He won the Nobel Peace Prize. How about that? And he did it without a single vote from Florida. ... Now that he’s won the Nobel Prize, Al Gore has a huge, international platform to fight global warming. Kind of sad—today he stepped onto that platform and it collapsed. ... A lot of people are wondering now if Al Gore will run for president. Which would make it a Gore vs. Hillary Democratic primary. Kind of a global warming vs. global cooling. ... Barack Obama is attacking some of Hillary Clinton’s comments on torture. At one point, Hillary had said that “in some narrow cases torture could be acceptable.” Like, for example, if your husband is sneaking in at 2:30 in the morning.

Come on. If we're trying to winnow the fact from theory don't throw that out there as a given. My son came home reporting that the earth has been here 5768 years.

Smearing Al Gore:Here We Go Again

consortiumnews.com wrote:When people wonder how the United States ended up in today’s nightmarish predicament, a big part of the answer is that the right-wing message machine and the mainstream U.S. news media distorted reality at key moments about key people, perhaps most notably Al Gore during Campaign 2000.

That ability to twist reality has been a major focus of our reporting at Consortiumnews.com over the years [See, for instance, “Al Gore v. the Media” or “Protecting Bush/Cheney.”] Much of this work is reprised in our new book, Neck Deep.

But even now – when the consequences of the news media’s earlier “war on Gore” can be measured in the horrible death toll that has followed the Bush presidency – it appears that little has changed.

Lies and distortions about Al Gore remain an easy political commodity to sell, as we have seen in the renewed assault on Gore in the wake of his winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

As the news spread about the Nobel Committee’s recognition of Gore’s work publicizing the threat from global warming, both the right-wing media and major news outlets geared up to hype criticism of Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” in a ruling by an obscure British judge.

I'm offended by the anti-Gore viewpoints/propoganda that are tolerated/catapulted here so I've linked to a news source above that defends his claims in An Inconvenient Truth.

Also this Gore bashing seems to violate Mike's rules:

I don't know all that much about Al Gore - Don't need to. I do know that he's on the other side of the fence from Bush on most of the imortant issues of the day . . . . and that's good enough for me

Yeah, I think the biggest thing the Democrats have going for them is that Bush has another year in office. By next November, even Hillary might look awfully good in comparison.

I always wanted to find out the answer to this question, but it just seemed to go by the way...What ever happened to all those Hollywood types that "swore" to leave the country if Bush got elected? I'm still waiting...not that it matters since I don't pay attention to them or whatever crappy movie they appear in...but was it all for attention or did they have any backbone on the whole thing? If anyone did leave...has you life changed in any way? I'm not particularly happy with the situation, but might be happier if there were a couple of Baldwin Bros. headed out of here with either Gore of Barbara Streisand under their arms. Doug

I doubt any of them left? Actors may well be the one group that are full of even more hot air than politicians. Sounds like a good plan though... I like your thinking.

Maybe Bush could work out some kind of "Free Trade Agreement" for hollywood types? You know like "We'll send you a hollywood type for each Mexican that wants to come work up here?" He!!, he's a lame duck... He might just go for it? ;)

I am always bothered when free speech is hampered by someone being offended by a differing opinion or set of "facts".

Fighting between members is grounds to pull a thread. Bashing a public figure may cause fighting but giving one's opinion should not cause fighting.

My opinion about Gore's inconvenient truth is that like many other times he failed to take personal control over the content. He did not personally check the "facts", or the sources.

Funny how a British Judge can be called obscure if he doesn't agree with someone famous/infamous. Somehow what he says has no value even if it is true.

If you read the "real" scientific documents you will find that Gore and his cronies expect you to pay a tax on every animal that may or may not "fart."

An Inconvenient Truth. Gore is being used and either hasn't a clue or is part of it. He set himself up to be criticized by being a public figure and spokesman for a group. It isn't Gore bashing to disagree with him.

Gore is just trying to find a public cause or agenda that he can attach himself to.

Long ago he was trying to be the figure in the community that was touting global cooling as the doom of the world. He failed at that and was ridiculed.

He then said that he invented the Internet. He failed at that and was ridiculed.

He now is the figure against global warming the doom of the world. After time passes and it is shown that this is a natural part of the evolution of the world, He will again be ridiculed.

I agree -- Charlton Heston can leave, too. Actors should stay out of politics. Next thing you know, one of those Hollywood types will run for governor somewhere -- or even President. Can you imagine what a disaster a Hollywood actor would be as President. ;)
