Dose anyone have a Mountain bike to sell me?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

How about FREE? (plus shg)

Postby LesterS » Sat Oct 20, 2007 9:52 am

As a thank you for your service, how about a well-loved truly 10 year old FREE moutain bike? (You just arrange shipping).

Here's the specifics...
1997 GT Tempest (Aluminum frame), 21 Spd, Candy Blue, No suspension, No bull horns, Upgraded brakes, NO TIRES (have tubes though), and NO PEDALS.

I bought this bike used from a friend (whom incidentally was about 5'5"), he used it alot, but needed money for another bike he wanted (with a suspension) so I bought it, then never used it.

He was never much of a mechanic so he had it serviced at the bike shop. Now it just collects sawdust in my garage!

I couldn't think of a BETTER use for this 'almost' bike.
BTW - If you do choose to take it (you're under no obligation), the bike will ship from near Fayetteville, NC.

Just add tires and pedals. (shoes if you go that route).

Bike and more

Postby LesterS » Sat Oct 20, 2007 11:00 am

For the record, most of my neighbors, are with the 82nd, so getting it shipped via APO (? I'm a civilian) would probably be easy. Like someone suggested, maybe one of the guys from Ft. Bragg could send it for me.

Oh for the record, the reason I didn't use the bike, is 'cause we have old people bikes instead...

SFC Hall, Just let me know, and I'll see if I can make this happen.

I would be glad to be a central point for the bicycle care package. He would need tires, tubes, lube, pedals, possibly some shorts. I assume he has access to a pump and some kind of helmet! Maybe some powdered sports drink. GUIs or energy bars.

Probably platform pedals since getting into shoes and cleats could get a bit complex.

Those are nice peds. I've been using a spd touring pedal that's similar.

I have some GUIs, a spare bottle of White Light'ning, a spare multi-tool some levers and probably some other odds and ends. I always end up with bottles. & I bet I can talk my LBS out of some odds and ends.

Just to double-check, what size wheels are those? We also need the cost of shipping the bike. Maybe somebody who doesn't have any bike stuff might help on that.

I just love the people on this forum. Way to go getting a bike for SFC Hall.

My son, Air Force, has been deployed overseas a couple of times so I know all about APO addresses.

Sending to an APO address is no big deal, its just an address with an American zip code that needs to be done though the post office, as it goes to that destination before getting shipped over seas. If the postage isn't too much, it is good idea to use priority mail as it speeds up the process. Plus if any of the little parts fit into the flat rate priority boxes that tends to be a good deal too as you can stuff as much stuff as possible into it all for the same price.
The Post Office web site is a great way to figure out what size boxes & weight that can be sent. Once you have the zip code, cost can be figured out too. That way there aren't any surprises on the Post Office.

For all those helping :applause: :applause: :applause:

You guys are really great! I didn’t expect anything like this. It’s a bit overwhelming that strangers would be so generous to me.

I truly thank you all, and I will be very happy to except. This is so great. Two good things in one day! I was just told that it looks like I will be able to come home for two weeks for Christmas! This in important because I was scheduled for Thanksgiving and that got cancelled. And the holidays are the only time I would get to see my daughter who comes home from college! THIS is a good day!

Thank you my friends.

Lester I will email you about the bike.

Here is my address guys and again, I can’t thank you enough!
