One guy is currently in the process of installing the $25K Hartley 2.8L V-8 into his new Atom - ~ 400 HP with no supercharger. The Hartley V-8 is made up of a pair of Suzuki Hayabusa 4 cylinder banks mated to a single crankshaft . . . . an absolutely incredible engine

The 300hp version IS street legal. My friend has one with real Texas plates. I have pictures.

It is a hopped up Supercharged GM Ecotec. The Uripean Atom's use a Honda Vtec engine that has less power and a lot of vibration.

This is one case where the American version is better than the Uripean one.

Brammo is also working on an electric motorcycle I'm jazzed about.

Wow... That is one cool hotrod! Not for me though... these daze I can get all the rush I need on my putt. I had a couple cars that would run around 200 mph a few years back... Lucky I lived to tell about it. It sure looks like fun though.

I forgot that Top Gear is also on BBC America on - demand, usually six or seven of last season's episodes

There are about 30 of these cars here for the week end. They are out at our Race track, Hallett, west of Tulsa, Ok. They have been having a lot of fun. Yesterday they had a driving school and today was races. Gene and my son Jon went out and spent the day yesterday and had a ball. They were supposed to have a group of them come into town this evening but something must have come up because they never showed up. A lot of them were not street legal but there were a few that were. They are fantasic cars and I would love to be able to drive one, yes, even at my age. They are going to be here until Sunday.

If you see one with texas plates that read "ATOM II", that's the guy I know with one. His name is Craig, and he's a nice guy. Say hello if you see him.

crash

Postby Jules Martel » Sat Oct 20, 2007 6:33 pm

you know what, this guy is just an accident in waiting, his buddy almost lost his life last yr, during a show episode, when you do anything at high speed, you close your mouth and focus, and respect the power of speed, and can throw you away any split of a sec, just to show you who really his the boss....

not a good example for the general public, since they emulate stars and go do the same in their ride, except they probaly hold acell phone, and talk to the person next to them while tryin to finish chewing their burgers

anyhow, it used to be one of our favorite show, specially the one about the reliability of the toyota hilux, amazing...... Toyota rules.

I do a lot of car-to-car photography in my work, and most people don't realize how slow we are going for that kind of stuff. The shot of Jeremy with his mouth open was staged just to be funny. They were on a closed airport runway, and they weren't going all that fast.

Most of the guys I've met in the automotive media are the same as me about speed. Heck, in our profession, we get to drive fast cars on real racetracks all the time, so the "fast and furious" street stunts have no appeal to us.

And Richard Hammond's near fatal crash was not because he was "messing around." He took that jet car VERY seriously. Bad things can happen even when you do things right.

That may be true, but it doesn't make good television.

Today's piece of useless trivia:

'Top Gear' is the most pirated TV program on the internet.

Not a lot of people know that.......

TRAILer trasher

Postby Jules Martel » Sun Oct 21, 2007 7:21 am

oh wed had forgot, since we block out negativamism,

go see the show about his great respect for trailers, slash caravans like they call it there, you can witness those three brit 7yr old brain at works. great respect to fellow campers, guess you like playing with fire a that age....

anyhow, hope they enjoy their 5 star hotel life, with slave serving them, and women passing around like a waterwheel, maybe they should create a sixth star status just for his kind, maybe they should put us in charge of that, love to have fun too......

dont get us wrong, that show knows how captivate an audience, it' entaryainnnnnment,it'a Show right, but sometimes maybe, they should limit themselves a bit, Respect audience wich are the real boss in the end, life is more than ratings number, these people, Media, are already lucky and LICKY enough to drive the finest car ever made, less than a 1% of the general population will ever have that chance, long live the dream the machine create for us and go by that lottery tickets...you never know.

oh yeah, about it being the underground most watch show, this is the future, and the present. since its not evrbody that wants to waste their life watching commercials.... bbc and the corporate world will eventually use their short change brains to deprive the mass from freedom again. just a matter of time, enjoy the internet as it is now, since the great withey man bank account volume goes to infinity.

Jules, I think you need to go camping, bro. You're gonna' blow a gasket.

The caravan weekend trip segment wasn't my favorite, but it had it's funny moments. They made fun of themselves as much as they made fun of caravaning. Apparently caravans in Britain are loved by some, and seen as a nuisance by many. Andrew may have more on that.

BTW, getting to drive outrageous cars that most people don't almost makes up for the mediocre paychecks common in my profession.

No doubt! I kinda doubt that they live the "rockstar" lifestyle that you portray.

Didn't Clarkson have a Ford GT that Ford bought back because it had so many problems? You can't have a Ford GT while getting mediocre paychecks. You definitely can't afford the gas for it there either. I guess it pays to be the boss.

Okay, there is a vast difference in salaries between me and Jeremy Clarkson. :(

I'm afraid that the automotive media is an industry with a few celebrities, and a lot of guys who just love cars. Top Gear is one of the few automotive TV shows that has made it in prime-time, so to speak. Car guys love it, and their girlfriends watch it, too. That's hard to do.
