I just talked to a buddy of mine at Halliburton. He says they can sell you one for $9,566.42, delivered.

You can get the same bike at Wal Mart for $150, but Halliburton marks it us just a weeeee bit for delivery to a war zone.

Oh, if you want it assembled, that'll be an extra $1,200.

just a suggestion, maybe sfchall could get a whole shipment full of bike, if all of us could get as many used bike possible, donation of all kind, they could be distributed by the marines to the kids around the bases as a peace, or goodwill project....

Lester hasn’t replied yet… must be a long weekend for him.

Bikes are going to be very expensive to ship. Here’s the problem, a cheap bike weighs a ton, and so it costs a LOT to ship here, a light Aluminum bike that doesn’t cast much to ship is a really expensive bike… see the dilemma here?

Lester offered me and aluminum bike (that I am very grateful for) and it should cost between $50 and $70 to send. (that I am more than willing to pay!)

The Jeep bikes are the top of the cheap bike scale, or the bottom of the quality bike scale. I have seen them around but not in the PX. The PX isn’t that great a place to shop anyway. Over here, granted, it is very nice to have. But in the states the average Soldier can’t afford to shop there. It’s for the officers and single enlisted. It would be equivalent to shopping at JC Pennies… most of us go to Walmart instead.

The PX does sell bikes at around $150. They are very heavy low-end bikes, like those you find at Walmart back home. My thought was, it I could find someone with a 10 year old Aluminum bike they don’t ride, I might be able to get it cheap enough even with shipping that it would cost about the same as a PX bike… and I’d have three times the quality (although be it outdated) and half the weight.

See… I had a plan; I just didn’t expect this kind of generosity. You guys really are great!

Oh, I got the impression that Jeep bike company was giving bikes to soldiers in combat areas. Guess that was naive on my part.
