P.S. e? elliptical of course...

Well, I guess you could change the name of the Weekender to E-Squared.

But there's four e's in Weekender.... wouldn't that be e quad or something silly like that? Oh never mind...

Whoa Mike,
Hold on there buddy...
I was just trying to explain the logic of my prank in that last post, which was a play on words from a prank you tossed at Andrew, not actually get you to change the name.
I think Weekender is the perfect name for this little (squared ellipse) trailer, as you explained in an earlier post.

Yes, I understood you. E squared was the answer to the joke, not the new name for the trailer. Sometimes black letters on a gray background don't convey the same amount of information as talking in person might... but we'll get to the bottom of it sooner or later!

Andrew,
I just had an idea that I would like to bounce off of you. How about taking the Rimple front, and combine it with the Simple rear? Wouldn't that be a lot easier to build than any of the others :?: I think that the square back would be easier to construct, but think the sloped back Simple looks better.

What say you? Are you up to the challenge of combining the plans to come up with another one or two :?:

In the wonderful words of the great American philospher: Doh!

The Simple and the Rimple are just variants of the same set of plans - put a 24" radius front on the Simple and you've done it.

RC, I'm interested to know what you're using to build your trailer - the CAD files (ie, a .tcw, .dwg or .dxf file) or the Acrobat .pdf 'pictures'?

If people want to use the .pdf to build from, I ought to put some more detail on those plans.

Andrew,
I am not in the process of construction yet, as I am still trying to balance the issues of ease of building, cost, and features to come up with a complete plan of action. So far, I have been using the PDF's as my file of choice for dreaming. I do not have a CAD program that can use the other files, so I am out of luck there. I didnt know that the other file formats had more details, but any more info is always apreciated from my end.

I knew that the Simple, the Rimple and the slopebacked simple were all based on the same plans, I was just hoping you could put the Rimple with the slope back together for all to see, since you could literally cut and paste the parts together in very short order.

Thanks,
RC

I love all these simple plans for building a small trailer but I guess my question is, are there any more step by step plans on how one would build these simple trailers with your plans? I like the idea of how they use a inexpensive Harbor Freight trailer but for a newbie like me, how do I then put your plans into action and build or do I need to buy some actual plans that show the step-by-step on building a trailer setup and then use your drawings as a template to make the simple design?

Thanks

Thomas

You've caught me out there - writing that much detail is more effort than I've put into most of my designs so far! However if viewed by CAD software, there is nearly enough detail to build the designs, but it's not possible to see that level of detail in a pdf.

No-one seems to have had a teardrop collapse due to being built too light, so look through some of the web sites of people here and then just build a trailer using what seems sensible to you.

FREE CAD

I saw that somewone is in need of CAD programs. One of these will surely work with the files you need to view.

Download CadStandardLite for free at
http://www.apperson.org/cadstd/lite.php

Download Ally Cad v3.4 for free at
http://www.allycad.com/

FreeCad has a motion capability Download at
http://www.askoh.com/freecad/index.html

The standard for many is Turbo CAD Here is Learning Edition 2D Free at
http://www.al-ki.com/tcad/download.php#TurboCADLE

The price is right so check them out to see which one is right for you!
Happy drawing!

Thomas,

If you look at several of the build pages, you will get the general idea of how a trailer goes together. Many of the people that have built their own trailers documented the builds with a lot of pictures, and some with text also. Click on the "Hall of Fame" in the upper left corner, and it will open a new window with links to several trailers (just click on the pics). Some have only a couple of pics, and some go into great detail.
