After 18 days and 5600+ miles we are back in Eureka CA. After leaving Lake Bistineau we ended up in Sherman TX for the night. Then we camped at Palo Duro State Park near Amarillo. (thanks to James Worley for the tip). Then on to Santa Fe and Albuquerque NM. We saw Canyon De Chelly and the Petrified Forest before stopping in Holbrook Az. Then on to Las Vegas where we stayed with friends for a couple of days. Last night was Carson City NV and then home today. Beautiful weather all the way home which was quite a contrast to the start of our trip. The teardrop had no problems at all except for a little road rash on the front of the fenders for road sanding and salt from icy roads the second and third day on the way the LCGII.
The PT Cruiser averaged about 23-24 mpg with a low of 19 and a high of 26 depending on wind, grades and traffic. I was able to pass on occasion in 4th gear up to 80 mph and could cruise at 70+ in 5th gear on the level interstates and country highways. The tear towed like a dream. No problem and no sway even with heavy crosswinds. I loved talking to some Rv owners with 5th wheel trailers who were getting about 6 mpg. That's 50 cents per mile at $3.00 per gallon!!!! My wife took some pics of the scenery but we have not downloaded yet so I will have to see if there is anything worth posting.
