Minimum dimensions of a Loo

What are the absolute smallest dimensions for a "loo" closet? Terlet only - no sink or shower.

how wide?????

Postby Steve Nikkel » Fri Nov 09, 2007 1:29 pm

minimum space is easy--------are you wider at the shoulders or is it down lower? measure widest dimension, set two pieces of cardboard upright on either side at that space. Now sit on something loo height while between them-----how much farther do you need to spread them to reach around and under to wipe yer bum? You now have found minimum dimension.

24" width is perfect. The depth should probably be 36". At some point, you've got to abandon the idea of a compartmentalized loo in a small trailer and just figure that nobody's gonna be really executing too much business with a full house. I'll keep workin'.

In my Fun Finder the bathroom was 21" wide, and I could not use it unless the door was open.

I don't know what the minimum width ought to be, but if you are right handed you could push the loo all the way to the left, and if you allow about 8" for your right elbow, I think you'd be okay. I think the magic number is somewhere between 24 and 32 inches, and probably closer to 32.

Yep, I'd second 36" x 24" as the minimum practical size.

As this space is used so little the rest of the time, it's worth cutting the permanent space down to that require to house the toilet itself, and then making the 'leg/foot space' in front of it temporary. Here's one way of doing this with a bi-fold door:

Frankly a curtain is pretty nearly as good.

 A curtain in a U shaped bow would give a lot of room and could still be tucked out of the way.

As I just copied this design from a boat my dad had when I was a boy, I can tell you that being able to open the outside door while still, errr, 'sitting down', can be a big benefit......

'Odour control', if you have to ask.

If you ever look inside of a camper van they do the same kind of thing. The door to the loo opens and becomes the door between the loo and the rest of the van.

Roadtrek is the manufacturer I was thinking of. I haven't been able to find a pic of the bathroom though.

Mine is just a little wider than our shoulders. It is for my wife, mainly at night. It is in the front of our TD and we sleep with out heads away from it. It is on my wifes side so she doesn't wake me. Notice the door is above the matress. She uses it with the door open, I just don't look.

Gerdo,

That's a real good way to add a Loo to a typical teardrop. ;)

I wear 4XL shirts and I say 24" is perfect for WHAT

At 30" wide I would have to find someone to do the paperwork for me.
