We dont have flooding but its in the Uk, Holland and Denmark. The North Sea is really somthing to experience in storms.. :? Norway has closed a few of their oil platforms so it is bad out there.

Holland is worried since most of that lil country is already below sea level.

We have 16 - 18 meters per second winds..and
Warnings and advisory information:

Warnings for sea areas
Warnings: Gulf of Finland: South to southeast gale 18 m/s. Western part of Northern Baltic and Sea of Åland: North gale 18 m/s. Bay of Bothnia: Southeast near gale 16 m/s.

Also Hazard driving conditions near 3/4s of Finland at this time.

Near Gale Winds

Heikki

Rubber Duckies, Rubber Boots and My canoe is already set ..
This is the time of season I may likely be on Duty Call.. :o :( But lets hope not.

...news reports indicate that flooding is now not likely since the storm surge pettered out before making landfall...a very close call for sure...but the authorities did get to play with their massive storm/flood gates............

Happy to hear you are battened down Heikki.

Norway has closed a few of their oil platforms so it is bad out there.

For those of you who are not aware the North Sea routinely gets towering waves. 40 to 60 feet are not that unusual. If they closed some of the platforms it must be really something.

Heikki, I sure hope you aren't called to duty. :worship:

Yes, it was a tremendous storm yesterday but thankfully for the people who live further south than me, the storm surge that was predicted to add to the high tides was not as bad as expected.

A neighbour is having their loft converted to extra bedrooms and it sounded like the storm was so severe it was audibly shaking the big ladder going up to the scaffolding. Wrong - it turns out someone was using the storm as cover to steal the ladder and then use it to climb up on a nearby church to steal the lead sheathing off the roof....

Holland speaking

Postby H@nk » Wed Nov 14, 2007 5:36 pm

Hey Heikki and all the others,

We don't have wet feet.
They (Rijkswaterstaat) have closed some of the biggest locks in the New Waterway. The waterlevel was the highest in 54 years. only 35 centimeters (1 foot) under the waterlevel of 1953.
The crane at my job was coming down, but not all to the ground.
We saved another 75.000 quibic meters of north european wood.
A lot of little garden cabines in my neighbourhood where coming down, so I had to deliver some wood of thew factory.

Greetings Henk
