I hear you can catch a lot of things now like bed bugs and bring them home to no thanks

My favorite thing to do in a Motel that I'm only using 1 bed in...short sheet the other. Imagine managements surprise when they find it out from a patron....  Doug

I hate to think about it but my son and I stayed in an "American Inn" in Indianapolis one night to attend a swap meet. I think we were the only ones without tatoos, piercings and a leather motorcycle jacket. I know I sound like an old "fogy" because I am, but the hotel room was really cheap at $27. Didn't mean to offend but these folks were no a desireable crew to be with.

After watching video, I'll be on the lookout when I travel on business and stay in a $450/night room in NYC or San Juan.

Like one of the guys said there must be a "house keeping school" out there that teaches how to do this. YUCK

What ever happened to sealed in plastic glasses? Years ago they came sealed so you would know if they were clean or at least think it.

Think about it... Plastic sealed cups cost money. If you can use the same glass every day till someone breaks or steals it... just rinsing it out... It costs nothing! :(

...true horror story...7years ago the wife and I made a trip up to the Smokies...stopped at a Days Inn, in Chatanooga after a days travelling and hiking the Chickamaugua Battlefields...we were tired, took showers and went to sleep...the lights over the bed kept coming on by themselves so the nights rest was disturbred...BUT in the morning, Marlene went to tuck the sheet back in and discovered what appeared to be blood and bullet holes...upon further inspection we noticed a nice line of freshly spackled and painted bullet holes in the wall above the bed, that led in a nice arc to the ones we discovered in the bed... :o  :x ...when we complained upon checking out, the gum chewing, corn rowed girl behind the desk just gave us a blank stare and stated that the manager was not present...I love my TD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeeouch... Whata horror story! About the most exiting motel stay I remember was in New Orleans in the late 80's. Seems we arrived when something big was going on with no reservations. The only room we could find was in a pretty rough neighborhood. The room was only $29. though and fairly clean. The clerk did go on to offer us a discount... If we only wanted the room for a couple hours we could have it for 20 bucks... cash. We didn't really ever go to sleep. The side show in the parking lot was too interesting. I bet 200 deals were made that night alone. No gunfire, but plenty of loud nasty language... and some guy had a boom-box and a BBQ grill going at 3AM? We did get a taste of NOLA culture not every tourist gets to appreciate though. ;)

I do a LOT of travelling for work and have never thought about it. If I stay at a place with real glasses and coffee cups (as opposed to plastic & styrofoam) I'll clean the glasses myself from now on, but it's hardly worth worrying about since I've never gotten sick after a hotel/motel stay. However gross it may seem, the fact is that letting the glass simply dry will kill most if not all bacteria on it - they can't survive without moisture. And hosing them down with Windex as one maid did is probably better for cleaning them than regular washing.

You take in far more bacteria simply by visiting someone in the hospital. Even more if you have to stay there for a night or two.

Simply letting it dry will not kill bacteria. Letting it dry out in the sun may be beneficial but water and friction with soap is the accepted method to clean glassware. :D Danny

I find that swirling a HEAVY shot of Wild Turkey around the glass helps a lot, as well :D ;) ...................... 8)

I usually use the glass for Scotch, which seems to have a similar effect...

That's what makes it LOOK clean. But soap doesn't kill bacteria - drying out the little buggers does.
