Life

This is a good one!!

FORTY TIPS FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL, SUPERB, AND POWERFUL LIFE

These are really very powerful. Implement whatever you can.

1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.
2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
Buy a lock if you have to.
3. Buy a PVR/TIVO, tape your late night shows and get more sleep.
4. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, "My purpose is to ___________ today."
5. Live with the 3 E's: Energy, Enthusiasm, Empathy.
6. Watch more movies, play more games and read more books than you did in 2006.
7. Make time to practice meditation, yoga, tai chi, and prayer. They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.
8. Spend more time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.
9. Dream more while you are awake.
10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less foods that are manufactured in plants.
11. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon broccoli, almonds & walnuts.
12. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
13. Clear your clutter from your house, your car, your desk, and let new and flowing energy into your life.
14. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control.
Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
15. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are
simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class, but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
16. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.
17. Smile and laugh more. It will keep the energy vampires away.
18. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
20. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
21. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
22. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
23. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
24. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, and wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: "In five years, will this matter?"
27. Forgive everyone for everything.
28. What other people think of you is none of your business.
29. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.
30. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
31. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will.
Stay in touch.
32. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
33. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
34. The best is yet to come.
35. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
36. Do the right thing!
37. Call your family often.
38. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: "I am thankful for __________. Today I accomplished _________."
39. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.
40. Enjoy the ride. Remember that this is not Disney World and you certainly don't want a fast pass. You only have one ride through life so make the most of it and enjoy the ride.

May your troubles be less,
May your blessings be more.
And may nothing but happiness come through your door!

more to ponder

Postby starleen2 » Sat Nov 17, 2007 8:39 pm

Here are some more to ponder (on the lighter side)

* Can you cry under water?
* How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered?
* How is it that we put a person on the moon before we figured out it would be a good idea to put wheels on luggage?
* Why is it that people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up every two hours?
* Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money in binoculars to look at things on the ground?
* Why do doctors leave the room while you change? They're going to see you naked anyway.
* If a 911 operator has a heart attack, whom does he/she call?
* Wouldn't it be nice if whenever we messed up our life we could simply press Ctrl Alt Delete and start all over?
* Stress is when you wake up screaming and then you realize you haven't fallen asleep yet.
* If raising children was going to be easy, it never would have started with something called labor!
* Brain cells come and brain cells go, but fat cells live forever.

Danny,

If you do the stuff on the list, tell me what your wife says when you get to #24.

FORTY TIPS FOR AN EXCEPTIONAL, SUPERB, AND POWERFUL LIFE

Hmmm... Well here's my take on this...

1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.
I'd rather bicycle for 30 minutes? ...knees are shot.
2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Buy a lock if you have to.
No problem... I sit in silence for hours at a time. Tricky part is not nodding off.
3. Buy a PVR/TIVO, tape your late night shows and get more sleep.
Better idea... Chunk out the TV! I haven't had one in years... I don't miss it.
4. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, "My purpose is to ___________ today."
"My purpose today is to get through the day alive."
5. Live with the 3 E's: Energy, Enthusiasm, Empathy.
I'm dang short on #1, Got way more than I need of #2, I have a bit of #3 left.
6. Watch more movies, play more games and read more books than you did in 2006.
I'd never get ANYTHING done if I did that... I do read a lot though.
7. Make time to practice meditation, yoga, tai chi, and prayer. They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.
Is it ok if I do this while I'm doing #2? I'm running out of day already?
8. Spend more time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.
The first one is easy... all my friends are geezers too. I'll think about the second one.
9. Dream more while you are awake.
Good thing I'm self employed. That kinda stuff got me fired twice.
10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less foods that are manufactured in plants.
I like fresh veggies. I do eat some canned ones though. I eat very little red meat... And I'm still fat!
11. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon broccoli, almonds & walnuts.
Not all at the same time I hope??? I'm surprised you didn't put some tofu in the mix!
12. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
I do... I tell lots of dirty jokes.
13. Clear your clutter from your house, your car, your desk, and let new and flowing energy into your life.
It would take me YEARS to do that. And, I like all my junk. I do sell some on ebay occasionally.
14. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control.
Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
I don't waste energy on anything. I barely have enough as it is.
15. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are
simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class, but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
That part I got down. I'm still learning new stuff all the time.
16. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.
I rarely eat more than one meal a day now... And, I'm still fat?
17. Smile and laugh more. It will keep the energy vampires away.
OK... I do that a lot anyway. I've never seen any vampires???
18. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
Yep... It sure beats the alternative.
19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
Life is too short to waste time... Nuff said.
20. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
Thank goodness for that.
21. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
I never won any of them anyway? Now I just don't argue... period.
22. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
No chance... I can't remember most of it anyway.
23. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
Can I compare it to Brittney Spear's? She makes feel pretty good about my self.
24. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, and wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
I'd get arrested in ten minutes in this little town... They are pretty strait laced around here.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
True. I choose to be happy. Plus, it confuses the heck out of most folks.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: "In five years, will this matter?"
Shoot... In five years nothing will prolly matter? After two heart attacks already, I may not be here.
27. Forgive everyone for everything.
I do! 'Course I blame them for it first... Then I forgive them.
28. What other people think of you is none of your business.
Yep... I don't really give a damn what they think anyhoo.
29. Time heals almost everything. Give time, time.
OK... Sounds good. But, I'm kinda running out of it pretty fast here.
30. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
So true. Not necessairly for the better though.
31. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.
What job? Haven't had one in 30 years. I do value my friends though.
32. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
I thought we covered that back at #13?
33. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
I don't envy anyone... But, there is still a lot of stuff I'd like to have. I may not need it, but I like a lot of stuff I don't have yet. I'm OK with this.
34. The best is yet to come.
I doubt it. I have some guilt about how good I've had it as it is now.
35. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
Naaa, I don't do suits any more... Not even for funerals. (See #28 )
36. Do the right thing!
I do try... but it's hard to make that jive with being a life-long capitalist?
37. Call your family often.
Well, I'd like to, but they are all dead now.
38. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: "I am thankful for __________. Today I accomplished _________."
That is just way to Zen and organized for an overgrown hippie artist type. I'll think about it though.
39. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.
Ever since I gave up arguing... I haven't been stressed?
40. Enjoy the ride. Remember that this is not Disney World and you certainly don't want a fast pass. You only have one ride through life so make the most of it and enjoy the ride.
I think this says it best: "Life should NOT be a plodding journey to the grave with intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well
preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming WOO HOO what a ride!”

I hope you don't mind my having a little fun with this... It is good stuff. ~ Brick :)

Thanks Danny. When I read your list it reminded me of a 17 point list I adapted from a book "A Better Way to Live" My favorite from my list is #15

1. Count your blessings! Once you realize how valuable you are and how much you have going for you, the smiles will return, the sun will break out, the music will play, and you will finally be able to move forward toward the life that God intended for you...with grace, strength, courage and confidence.
2. Today and everyday deliver more than you are getting paid to do. The victory of success will be half won when you learn the secret of putting out more than is expected in all that you do. Make yourself so valuable in your work that eventually you will become indispensible. Exercise your privilege to go the extra mile and enjoy all the rewards you receive. You deserve them!
3. Whenever you make a mistake or get knocked down by life, don't look back at it too long. Mistakes are life's way of teaching you. Your capacity for occasional blunders is inseparable from your capacity to reach your goals. No one wins them all, and your failures, when they happen, are just part of your growth. Shake off your blunders. How will you know your limits without an occasional failure? Never quit! Your turn will come.
4. Always reward your long hours of labor and toil in the very best way, surrounded by your family. Nurture their love carefully remembering they need models not critics, and your own progress will hasten when you constantly strive to present your best side. Even if you have failed at all else in the eyes of the world, if you have a loving family you are a success!
5. Build this day on a foundation of pleasant thoughts. Never fret at any imperfections that you fear may impead your progress. Remind yourself, as often as necessary, that you are a creature of God and have the power to achieve any dream by lifting up your thoughts. You can fly when you decide you can. Never consider defeat again. Let the vision of your heart be in your life's blueprint. Smile.
6. Let your actions always speak for you, but be forever on the guard against the terrible traps of false pride and conceit that can halt your progress. The next time you are tempted to boast, just place your fist into a pail of water, and when you remove it, the hole remaining will give you a correct measure of your importance.
7. Each day is a special gift from God! While life may not always be fair, you must never allow the pains, hurdles, and handicaps of the moment to poison your attitude and plans for your future. You can never win when you wear the ugly cloak of self pity and the sour sound of whining will certianly frighten away any opportunity for success. Never again! There is a better way.
8. Never again clutter your days with so many menial and unimportant tasks that you have no time to accept a real challenge when it comes along. This applies to play as well as work. A day merely survived is no cause for celebration. You are not here to fritter away your precious hours when you have the ability to accomplish so much by making a slight change in your routine. No more busywork. No more hiding from success. Leave time, leave space to grow. Now! Now! Not tomorrow.
9. Live this day as if it will be your last. Remember you will only find tomorrow on the calender of fools. Forget yesterdays defeats and ignore the problems of tomorrow. This is it, Doomsday, all you have. Make it the best day of your year. The saddest words you can ever utter are, 'If I had my life to live over again...' Take the baton, Now! Run with it! This is your day!
10. Beginning today treat everyone you meet, friend of foe, loved one or stranger as if they were going to be dead at midnight. Extend to each pearson, no matter how trivial the contact, all the care and kindness, understanding and love that you can muster, and do it with no thought of reward. Your life will never be the same.
11. Laugh at yourself and life. Not in the spirit of derision or whining self-pity, but as a remedy, a miracle drug, that will ease your pain, cure your depression, and help you put into perspective that seemingly terrible defeat of the moment. Banish tension and concern and worry with laughter at your perdicaments, thus freeing your mind to think clearly toward the solution that is certian to come. Never take yourself too seriously.
12. Never neglect the little things. Never skimp on that extra effort, that additional few minutes, that soft word of praise or thanks, that delivery of the very best that you can do. It does not matter what other think. It is of prime importance, however, what you think of you. You can never do your best, which should always be your trademark, if you are cutting corners and shirking responsibility. You are special, act it! Never neglect the little things.
13. Welcome every morning with a smile. Look on the new day as another special gift from your Creator, another golden opportunity to complete what you were unable to finish yesterday. Be a self-starter. Let your first hour set the theme of success and positive action that is certian to echo through your entire day. Today will never happen again. Do not waste it with a false start or no start at all. You were not born to fail!
14. You can achieve your grand dreams a day at a time, so set goals for each day. Not long and difficult projects, but chores that will take you step by step toward your rainbow. Write them down if you must, but limit your list so that you won't have to drag today's undone matters into tomorrow. Remember you can not build a pyramid in twenty-four hours. Be patient. Never allow your day to become so cluttered that you neglect your most important goal - to do the very best that you can. Enjoy this day and rest satisfied with what you have accomplished.
15. Never allow anyone to rain on your parade and thus cast a pall of gloom and defeat on the entire day. Remember no talent, no self-deniel, no brains, no character are required to set up in the fault finding buisness. Nothing external can have any power over you unless you permit it. Your time is too precious to be sacrificed in wasted days combating the menial forces of hate, jealousy and envy. Guard your fragile life carefully. Only God can shape a flower but any foolish child can pull it to pieces.
16. Search for the seed of good in every adversity. Master that principle and you will own a precious shield that will guard you well through the darkest valleys you must traverse. Stars may be seen from the bottom of a deep well when the can not be discerned from the mountian top. So you will learn things in adversity that you would never learn without the trouble. There is always a seed of good find it and prosper.
17. Realize that true happiness lies within you. Waste no time and effort searching for peace and contentment and joy in the world outside. Remember there is no happiness in having or getting, but only in giving. Reach out, share, smile, hug! Happiness is a perfume you can not pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.
