I have been out bow hunting a few times this year. I could have taken a spike horn or a doe, but I have seen a ten pointer, so I passed. Gun season started a couple of days ago, but I had to miss it so far because of work. I will be out Thanksgiving weekend. At least there will be less hunters and maybe some snow, if I'm lucky. I may go black powder hunting in December, it depends on my work schedule.

Nice doe, by the way.

the first doe i took last saturday was with my blackpowder rifle(my first with it) it was pretty cool 50 yards iron sights. The deal is that i traded an old motorcycle for 3 guns this summer a .243 which i used today a blackpowder rifle and a 12 ga. all like new...i think i got a good deal and with the shot today i am convinced of it :)

Now M ~

What gives you bragging rights as in, that you say Missouri has the best tasting deer?
Guess it depends on the forage and feed in general they would get but out of
all these United States ... you make a blanket statement such as this?

M ~ are you the resident doe eating woman of the forum who knows all aboutImage
venison and all its tastes?

Steve, I eat them and I don't like wild game. Just ask anyone at ITG 11 who ate it. Mild smooth taste. Usually no gamey taste at all. 8)

It's a show me thing.

Oh M~

You say
It's a show me thing

I guess it must be true ~
All the other deer hunters in all 50 states had better not think that their Image
venison tastes the best cause our resident Missouri-ite has proclaimed the
winner, cause she was shown the light of truth~
Shown as only a Missouri-ite can proclaim~ So it must be ~ M ~
Now my quest will have to be to taste from this Holy Grail of Missouri venison~ ;)

Hunting

Postby CAJUN LADY » Sun Nov 18, 2007 12:02 am

I dooon't know........The deer I've hunted in Idaho and Nevada were very, very good. They were Mule Deer, big buggers...not like the ones I've hunted in Louisiana which look like small antelope. But quit hunting since I moved to Florida so need to make a trip to mom's to get some meat.

A tip- If you don't like the taste of venison or elk or whatever, wrap your steaks with bacon before you put them on the grill. It takes away the gamey flavor that a lot of people don't like.

Miriam- In NY you can tell the difference in taste from a deer shot in the northern hunting zone and a deer shot in the southern hunting zone ( 2 distinct seasons in NYS ) The deer up north, mostly Adirondacks, feed on anything they can find in the woods. Very lean and gamey. In the southern zone, most deer feed in farmers fields, corn and such, so they just taste better by virtue of their diet. IMHO

Our regular rifle season opens next Monday. I'll be leavin' for camp on Saturday till Wednesday night.
Didn't see anything worth shooting during archery.
