Puppytraining?

Maybe a little late, but you never know.

We have a dalmation (race) and a dwarfdashhound (race).
They never have had the intention to run away or brake out.
At puppytraining (long time ago, they learned it. when they do the right thing, you give the dogs a little reward. after a while forget the reward and just a good word is enough. Again after a while, you just give the order to stay and they stay. This is no Dutch method, but worldwide.

I have been looking at some of the ideas you guys have given me and pretty much gave the "thumbs down" to the no-jump harness. The wireless fence was looking like an option until I took Boomer out for his pee/poop break. A little dog behind my house was up against the fence being a curious dog. Well, Boomer was so enthralled with him or her, I don't know which, he ran and lept over a 5' high Honeysuckle fence like an equestrian horse!!!!!!!!

Luckily, by the time I got into my neighbors backyard his attention was still focused on the neighbor dog!!! I've never in my life saw a dog that could leap like that!!!

Man, this going to be worse than building a hatch............................ :x !!!!!!!!!!

Jeff

You could try the wireless fence about 5 feet inside the fence line instead of on top of it that might catch him before he starts the leap

Yeah Bob, I looked at all of the wireless and buried wire stuff and the PetSafe looks like the sweetest idea!! I'm going to try heightening the fence a couple of feet and see how that goes. I have the stuff to do that now so it's not like I'm out a bundle.

I have to stand in the backyard while he's roaming around and when I feel like he's going to try and jump I yell, "NOOOO!!!" Hopefully, I can get his under control before it gets REALLY cold out. I don't want to be standing in the backyard when it's 10 degrees and blowing............... knowhatImean?

Hopefully I'll never see that kind of weather again, and hopefully he'll be cold enough that he'll do his business and come back inside. However I had a Chesapeake Bay Retriever and he never noticed cold or rain, he just didn't care so you never know.

Well Bob, not for sure. A couple of weekends ago, I cut the Honeysuckle vines out of the fence he was jumping over and was planning on extending the top of the fence up a couple of feet. The vine extraction took most of the weekend (still not done) so I haven't gotten to the actual heightening part yet. I stand in the yard while Boomer is doing his business and watch him in case he jumps.

It seems that he doesn't see the vine-covered fence as a wall, I think. I wonder if, because he can see through it now, he sees is differently?

Since the time change on Nov. 11, I can't do anything after work because it's too dark and the weekends from here til the end of the year are pretty much booked solid, I will probably hook him to a leash in the front yard so I can watch from the warm confines of the living room. Cripes, we got some snow today and the wind is pretty chilly now!!! That's when I came up with "Plan B"...............................

Low of 72 today, high of 82.

But the food still stinks here and the scenery is horrible.
Here we go again!
