Cooking for Thanksgiving

Postby tonyj » Wed Nov 21, 2007 11:46 pm

Okay, I really don't cook as a rule. I would have to clean off too much counter space in the kitchen to do that. But I'm going over to a long time family friend's house for lunch tomorrow and I can't show up empty handed. So, I'm making my sister's Buttermilk pie recipe. Have two in the oven with 45 minutes to go.

What are y'all making?

Oops--the timer just went off (the smoke smoke detector!). Guess I better check it out or take the battery out!
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

I thought I would be here , like last year so I was going to either eat or eat in ....possible cook some chicken drumsticks and a sweet potato.

But my now 18 year son doesn't want to spend it over at his dad's wife's family's place , so me and him will be likely going to Cracker Barrel. YUM and they have lots of gingerbread things in their little store this year ( I collect and LOVE gingerbread things!)

Happy Gobble Gobble Tony !!! Thanks for being my teardroppin friend!

Julie

Yes, I edited this... don't feel sorry for me . I stuffed myself at our potluck last Friday and might have a 'date' later!!!

I've been prepping and cooking since SUNDAY, and today, I started at 3PM and I'm just about to collapse.

It's after midnight here, and I'm so overtired that I can't even go to sleep.
Here we go again!

I thought I would be here alone , like last year so I was just going to either run to the nearby McDonald's or the diner/truck stop across town.

But most are closed at 11 AM till the next day. I guess that Breakfast Thanksgiven for me at Mikey'D's.

Pat

Hmmm.......I might get out the Dutch Oven and try some recipies with what I have on hand after I wake up. ;)

I'm working all week long so the only thing I'll be making is a trip to somebody else's house.

Jack:

Your so nice to prepare dinner for Marlene, while she sleeps.
I bet she will appreciate having a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner before she has to go back to work.

Enjoy your day ~ Jack 8)

Just took pumpkin muffins out of the oven. Already have a pumpkin pie and two egg custard pies cooling. Got the ham ready for the oven, and the chicken is ready to make dumplins in the morning. We''ll take eveything and go to my folks house for the big feast at 1:00.

Julie- You and your son are certainly welcome to come join us. We always have several guests, but this year I don't think anyone is joining us. Come on down if you want to!!

I have to do the whole meal at my house so it'll be a long day. I wish it was at somebody else's house and I could just make MaryK's pumpkin desert I made last year. It's really good!

Let's see, I've got 2 homemade pumpkin pies made, stuffing prepped to finish tomorrow, turkey in frig waiting for tomorrow. Tomorrow finish stuffing, roast turkey, make mashed potatoes & gravy. Then we'll haul it over to my parents house. My dad is 90 & my mother is 87 so they appreciate leftovers so I make plenty because they don't do much cooking anymore. My sister & son will make other parts of the meal.

The thing that is harder to get used to is not having my children home for all the holidays. My daughter (24) is with her boy friend in Oregon at his parents house & my son (22) is in the Air Force in SD.

Geron and Brenda

(We have four boys so they go to the wives families for thanksgiving. Whewwwwww! Gloorrryyy!! What a blessing!!!!!.) [hey, Christmas, also!!!!]
We catch them at odd moments throughout the year when we DON"T have to cook -- BTW I have to do 90% of the cooking. Anyway, every bodies such PICKY eaters. "I don't eat this." I don't eat that" When I was young - long time ago- Mom put the food on the table. If you didn't eat it you went hungry :o -- If you were absent for a meal you waited till the next.

Lost my cool but held my mouth when I set the honey mustard dressing before the 7 year old grandson. He asks, " what kind is it?? I only eat the kind with the black specks in it." :x :x :x :x :x :MLAS :MLAS :MLAS

That woulda been butt whoopin' time when I was a boy ;)
My folks kept a wheel barrow full of "*** whoop" around for "whenever needed"

We were going to my youngest daughter's house for a nice dinner. She told us she would do all the cooking. Well the other night she call and ask if we could put it off until the first weekend of December. They are going camping this weekend. So Tanya and I are headed to Marie Callender's for a nice dinner and pie. The next best thing to home cooking.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Heading over to my brother's house in NY.

My sister-in-law and brother have been hosting the dinner there for the last 10+ years. All my nieces and nephews will be there! They relocated in Sept to Boston and their NY home just sold. There's time for the last Thanksgiving meal at this house and next year we all head up to Boston to keep the tradition going!

Barb

Ps...I'm bringing the beverages.
