Wow--that's heavy, man. I mean, that's heavy sir!

Seriously--thanks for posting this. You gotta be going through some heavy mind things now, because you're going to be experiencing such a major change in everything you've known and loved. But it's really going to be great, you know?

This is one of those life-changing events that brings changes for the better, allowing you to do different things and move in directions you weren't able to before.

Congratulations!
Here we go again!

Sid, thanks. Not everyone can serve in the military and not everyone for that long. I thank you and so does your country.
I did three in the U.S.M.C. and thought I did my part for my country.
35 years, I salute you.

Sid & Side... Congratulations on your retirement and a heartfelt thank you for making us all a little safer. I'd say relax and enjoy the freedom. Do all those things you always wanted to... travel, camp, visit every state?, spend time with friends & family... Whatever you want to do. You both have earned it!
...And, our respect too. :applause: :applause: :applause:

Sid AND Side , much appreciation for serving this country for me and mine. My now 19 year old son enlisted in the Army National Guard here in Oklahoma back in May but has a 19 Mar 2008 ship date for basic in GA and AIT in VA. He is what some will consider one of the lowest members, being a BandMember but I'm sure he'll learn more than just how to play the anthems --- thanks to Guard members like yourself that he'll learn to look up to and respect.

Enjoy your retirement as long as you can !!!!

Man I am so looking forward to that day! Good luck to you! Have you got a job lined up, or are you going to take it easy for a while?

My wife doesn’t work like your… so when I do retire, I have to have a job lined up. I have been trying to convince my wife, I work the first 35 years, she should work the send 25… she just wont see it my way…

We should see a bunch of projects from you. When I’m done with my tear, I’ll be starting on building my own boat! Only wish I could spend more time with my hobbies, work always gets in the way.

Sid & Side,

Thanks for spending your lives providing a service to our country. I'm sure that you did more than just show up, I bet you helped so many other soldiers grow up and become adults who when they got back to civilian life they made their communities better.

I'd think you might consider showing up on the West Coast for some of the gatherings here,

Enjoy all the new decisions you will be making

John

CONGRATULATIONS, Sid, on coming through a lifetime of service in good shape and good spirits; that you have mixed emotions makes sense, but it speaks very well of your dedication and temperament -- I know very, very few people who would not be running screaming out the door after 35+ years in any job, just from the sheer exuberance of having survived.

Thank you, too, for the lifetime you have given your country.

I sincerely hope you find the future a rewarding challenge.
I know that whatever you choose to do now with your time and talents -- and if you can bring yourself to, I would hope you choose to lend some of that time and some of those talents to teaching, perhaps as a Scout/Explorers leader or an ROTC training instructor if not as a full-time teacher -- you will succeed.

Thanks to all, it's been a privilege and an honor.

Loredo, I spent 10 years with the Boy Scouts as an Assistant Scoutmaster and raised 3 Eagle Scouts. It is a great organization. We would like to do some volunteer work, maybe with Habitat for Humanity. Side is also thinking of some part time work at the YMCA. Both of these are pretty local to us.

Thanks and congratulations. After 20 years and 14 days it was easy to learn not to salute, hard to figure out what to wear and impossible to get your new civilian friends to walk in step. The thing you will miss most is the friends you have made and the sense of community. Beeing a career soldier is being a member of a special family and you both will miss it. Good luck with your future indeavors.
