Deep Fried Turkey

Postby toypusher » Thu Nov 22, 2007 12:02 pm

Hey, has anybody out there had deep fried turkey? My nextdoor neighbor is going to deep fry a turkey today. Just wondering for those who have tried it, is it good??

It is great. Usually we do it but this year we are not. We are going to do it for Christmas instead. imagine a giant piece of fried chicken minus all the grease.

The turkey is pretty good and not at all greasy?
If your helping?
Stand clear whilst raising and lowering the bird, stuff happens?

If your lucky enough to have a "gourmet neighbor" who knows how to, or what blend, to inject(season internally) the burd with? Great tasting and quick.
From raw to table in an hour or so!

it is the best turkey I have ever had!!!!!!! I said I would never put a turkey in the oven again. We bought the deep fryer after the first time we had it.
BUT NOW I am cooking a turkey in the dutch oven of course. lol I wonder if it will be as good. I almost dont think so.

Last time I fried a turkey, which was a few years ago, I made some corn fritters since I already had the oil hot. I try to get the most use out of the oil before I put it away.

I won't go back to the oven again either. We cooked a breast as well as a 14lb turkey and it was excellent.

This is my first DFT and it was great. The injected flavors really came through. :applause:

I see the Tearjerkers "Hoosier Chapter" banner in your signature. Looks good.

Have deep fried several time--and Sonetpro deep fried a turkey at the recent Inks Lake gathering. The meat is moist, tender and not at all greasy. It is also much faster than preparing in an oven. Takes 20-30 minutes to get the oil to temp, 30-45 minutes to deep fry, then about 15-20 minutes to cool enough to cut. Um-um, good!

The trick to doing it safely is to not use too much oil. Put the turkey in the empty kettle. Fill with water to the proper fill point. Remove the turkey and mark the water level--this is the level you will use when you dump out the water and refill with oil. If you have a person on each side to lower the turkey, it is much safer than trying to gently lower the turkey in the hot oil by yourself.

Try it--you'll love the results.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Just got done enjoying mine... Love DFT.

Neighbor's fryer broke, so I fried 2 this year.

We've done them camping too - easy and fast.

I can do a very good roast too, but I like the fried the best.

The Kenskill is my trailer and the little Cardinal belongs to another friend who conned me into bring everything to the beach.
It worked out very well, especially as I watched the palm trees and then caught the Chicago/Michigan weather reports.
