Wine country tour ... kind of

Postby Volvord » Sat Nov 24, 2007 8:31 am

Every year for our anniversary my wife and I like to tour a small wine region in western Canada, but this year we are planning a destination further away, Willamette Valley in Oregon. The planned trip will be mid-May 2008.

Another couple who will be celebrating their 20th anniversary, this is our 27th, will be joining us and we are looking for a nice spot(s) somewhere in the Willamette Valley where we can stay for 4 or 5 days and do some winery tours and other touristy stuff.

We found this place...http://www.marthascottageoregon.com/index.html

Any recommendations on places to stay, sights to see, or wineries to visit are greatly appreciated. A house or cottage is preferred, but we would also consider B&B's

p.s. No we will not be bringing the TD on this venture, although I am hoping to have the project nearing completion by then so we can use it for the rest of the summer.

Any ideas?

Volvord, there are some good camping areas near the wine country. Check the "Favorite Campgrounds map".

Sounds like a fun trip

The Willamette Valley Vineyards are good to tour. They are just north of Salem. Salem and Albany are pretty much in the middle of the wine country as far as staying somewhere. Go to www.oregonwinecountry.org or just google in Willamette Valley Vineyards for several sites. If you get a chance, tour Newport on the coast, it is about 45 minutes away from Salem. There is a big wine festival in Newport each year-one of these sites will tell about it. Happy traveling-it is a pretty area.

Thank you for the comments.
I have seen the website and it is great, we have been spending a LOT of time surfing the internet and finding interesting places. What I really wanted was personal recommendations for places to stay, or knowledge of the area.

And again thanks for the list of campgrounds, but as mentioned we will be staying in cottages, B&B's, or unique accommodations on this trip. I will keep that list handy for our first trip in the TD that is currently under construction.
