One night would be a safe bet for me. We could always add one if needed.
19th would be great! I'm already rubbing my hands for warmth!?!

Yes one night is probably good I was standing outside in the drizzle this morning thinking I must be Crazy

Image I guess if everyone brought wood and we put it into one fire it won't be bad.

I actually can't wait, I must be crazy

Drizzle? You mean that 38 degree heavy fog? I spent the weekend modifying the awning on Dogtown and that drizzle provided a refreshing design test--Now I'm ready for anything up to Ice and Snow.

Told old what's her name I was going camping the 2nd week of January and you are right they look at you like you are NUTS. She did reluctantly say she might go if the weather was reasonable. As a boy scout I seem to best remember the shive-rees we had winter camping.
Froze our butts off one year in explorer tents and the next year the scoutmaster came up with a company tent and 2 55 gallon drum heaters. We were running around inside in tee shirts while the other troops froze.
I am going to try and develope the elbow stove that I found on this forum for the occasion, It will be outside and vented into the tear got the idea just need to find the time.

subject: Winter Camping

Dear Sir Edmond (Scott) Hillary and company,

The odds are with you. Winter in Indiana is, on average quite predictable.

You could get this:
During an average year Southern Indiana enjoys the diverse climate of four seasons.
Winter: December, January, February
• Temperature range: 26º F - 45º F.
• Average temperature: 35º F.
Temperatures below 0º F occasionally, light snow possible,
rarely over one inch. Wind chill can be worse than
temperature. Coats are a must.

or you could get this:

Beginning Wednesday January 25, 1978, Indiana was paralyzed by a snow storm that came to be known as the Blizzard of 78, the worst blizzard on record for the Hoosier state.

Image

I do remember one thing about the winter of 1977. The flocks of blackbirds were extremely thick that fall and the wooly worms were every where.
So far this fall, I've seen huge flocks of blackbirds in flight and wooly worms crossing the roads.
This is not an omen or anything, just an observation and something to think about for the January camping trip

You're camping on the 19th so it should be no problem. :worship:

Bob, if it gets real bad you can call 911.
BTW, what's number for "911"?
I can never find the eleven button

I would be interested in going for a night but Brown County is a long haul from north of Fort Wayne. A little chill in the air should not deter anyone from camping. Winter can be a great time to camp. No crowds to fight. No reservations needed. No mosquitoes. No 90 degree weather like we had in October. Great time to sit around a fire.

Yes, but we can't book single nights until the Tue of the same week.
Did you have somewhere else in mind?

Sent an E-mail to IND DNR yesterday asking about other parks a little further north with winter camping provisions I expressed particular interest in the new prophets state park. This would put Tripmaker a lot closer and all of us within 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive. I have gotten no answer as of yet. The Web sight is real weak about winter hours and winter services available quess I'll have to just call a real human being the electronic highway is not doing the trick.

The 4" of snow we woke up to today really put you in the camping spirit huh !

If old what's her name bombs out on me , would it be OK to bring my 13 year old grandson. His first response when he saw my toy tear was " Hey grampa will you build me one ? " I took an easy out I told him as soon as he has a license and something to pull it ! WHEW !

While I would like to see it moved further north don't do it just for me. There is always a possibility that work won't let me get away as it is getting very close to tax time. Although I would like to go.

I wouldn't worry about reservations in January. There will not be much competition for camp sites. I would be surprised if there were many others beside the TD bunch. It's not like it's Memorial or Labor Day weekend and perfect weather.
