Hello from Missouri

Hello everyone I'm a newbe here and have a few questions. I am planing on building a Teardrop or a Benroy trailer. I want to make it 5' wide and 8' long. I will probably build my own frame as so far I have not found a ready built trailer that is what I want. I like the flexride axles for the abillity to set your ride height and a little smoother ride. I guess the first question I have is what weight range should I buy the axle for? The frame will probably be built out of 2" tubing 1/8th" thick with 2"X 1/8th" angle for the crossmembers and 2"X3"X1/8th" tubing for the tongue. I realize that you can add a lot of weight with the way you build the trailer and what you put in it, but I am just looking for an average weight to get an idea. Thanks in advance.

You just missed a small gathering down in Nevada MO, We're on the way home from it now.
On the axle side I'd probalbly go with a 2000 lb. Our WW has one and at 1600 lb trailer weight I haven't had any trouble with it. Waddles a little funny
in the right road conditions but that is the nature of the independence of the torsion axle.
Where in Independence are you? I was raised there and now live 40 miles northeast of there close to Excelsior Springs.

Thanks for the information on the weight. I would think that a Winter Warrior would weigh more that a Teardrop but it gives me an idea. I did see that there was a gathering this weekend in Nevada but I was unable to get down there. I would like to get together with others around here to exchange ideas on trailers and fabricating. I live just Northeast of I-70 and M-291.

Sounds great Jim. There is 2 tears allmost in your neighborhood. In Blue Springs area. One up in Smithville and 3 over on the KS side. I waa raised behind the Twinn drive-in so I'm familiar with your area. Three of us camp as often as we can up at Watkins Mill outside Excelsior Springs.

This seems like a very economical way to get into hardside camping, plus you get to build it the way you want it. Also I like the idea of how small and lite these trailers are. I have pulled trailers that weighed quite a bit and the wind would effect them in not a good way.

Hi Jim,

Welcome to the forum. Glad to have another Missourian. With your location, you should be able to drive for 30 - 60 minutes in about any direction to check out various builds. As Gary said you missed a get-together in Nevada. We couldn't attend, but we drove up and checked out the trailers. Really some interesting designs. Glad you decided to join us.
