Texas trailer light regulation question

Just a question for you Texas folks about trailer lighting. I am thinking about changing the taillights on the trailer to some surface mounts and get rid of those ugly, hideous monsters sticking out back (also Planning on replacing the amber side marker with a tear shaped one as well) Currently I am using the original that came with the trailer, which are stop/turn/ taillight combos.

However when I convert to the flush mount, I will lose the side marker and plate light built into the unit. I can install a new plate light, but will I have to install a new side marker light for the rear (red)? And if so will if also have it indicate a turn? Anyone know the regulations?

It doesn't have to indicate a turn. But you do have to have a red rear side running light.

I think it's a national reg more than a TX one. You need a red side marker at the rear and an amber side marker at the front. They've been posted on here but I'm too lazy to look.

I know it's a requirement to have the side marker lights, but I have two trailers without them and only have side reflectors and no one has ever said anything about it. My teardrop is one of them.

Thanks for the info. Here is a shot of the finished lighting for the camper. Those are LED clearance lights and LED replacement bulbs in the round taillights.

Soooooooo, now that there is a new/improved trailer ...... what happened to the one built on the 4x6 frame?

I am a noob on this board although I lurked several times b4. I was considering conversion of a small enclosed cargo trailer but like the idea of adding a "flattop" to the 4x8 utility trailer I alrady own. Your 4x6 "flattop" gave me some ideas!

We already have a small rv (Shadow Cruiser) but I like the idea of an inexpensive lightweight homebuilt that utilizes a trailer I already own. How do you remove the camper from the trailer?

The 4X6 went to a new home - But still have the trailer! the "tiny trailer" was bolted to the trailer and slid on and off when we needed the trailer. We added metal sheeting to the expanded metal to help slide it on and off. Worked pretty well. However, as you'll probably find out- once you build, that there are somethings that you may want for a second build, so the "weekender" was born. And true to form - we just updated the interior with wall paper, electrical, paint, and new tile! and now - the new design is the "Canned Ham", due to begin in January. Much sucess with you build (be sure to take a lot of constuction pictures)
